When Money Chairs Go Bad...

Yes, I know, they were bad from the start, but...

I just stumbled into a piece of property, while searching for a mall to put a small shop, with high traffic -- and no chairs, (which will remain nameless, I think Im supposed to keep my mouth shut on that), that houses a "casino", with camping chairs that payout L$50 an hour (or at least the ad says), now I go there, because I do the math on my handy dandy calculator, and it tells me thats 7200 lindens a day, and while I usually am not that cheap, or desperate, thats only 14 times my weekly stipend, damnit! So, of course, I have to check it out.

When I arrive at the place in question, which has traffic of 21944, mind you, I see that it merely consists of a building on a 1024 parcel of land. 9 slot machines (of the same 2 types, repeating) and a blackjack table, repeated 8 times. Oh, and 18 camping chairs, which say they pay out UP TO L$50 an hour. Most are currently paying out L$3 an hour, and one is paying out L$49 (too bad I cant see how long that poor schmuck has been sitting there).

Now here is the thing, the building looks terrible, I get the feeling that someone built it in a hurry, and used alot of free items (not a crime, just ugly). I kinda on one hand feel like congradulating the owner, because (PERSON'S NAME CENSORED BY THE MAN) has gamed the system, and appeared to have won (for a while anyhow). On the other hand though, I feel really nauseated, because I spend many, many hours a week, trying to produce quality products, and here comes someone with a handful of lindens, plops down a "casino", games the dwell system, cons his/her visitors into thinking they are getting more than what they are really getting, and takes the attention away from the people who are trying, really damn hard, to make SL a better place (for fun and profit).

So, to cut to the chase, how much does this sort of thing happen around SL currently? I have heard rumors of people even using fake camping chairs to generate dwell.

For now though, I getting the hell outta this property, its making my head ache.

others have explained this in detail on other threads.. being on the popular places list = expensive advertising, a few smarts profit from it.

usually its a magnet (casino etc) that draws people to nearby malls, sometimes like this there not even trying to promote content, I guess most of these isolated magnets make small losses, just doing it "because they can"

The motivation for paying Lindens to camping people eludes me entirely. Do people do this to help newbies earn money? There must be some clear reasoning behind continually purchasing vast sums of Lindens to give away for no reason. Somebody explain this to me please.

It makes your place seem more popular and interesting than it actually is, and increases your Traffic.

I started with 2K at a place similar to that... when I finally got sick of camping I had almost 20K :)

Those sure are good con artist's.

What you seem to have stumbled upon is nothing bad in anyway. In order to get upto the 50L per hour you need to be willing to spend a little cash. In most case's for me it was roughly 1K a day. I camped all night while I was sleeping and all day while I was at work. This is how I gamed the system myself and made a decent profit off it. So next time u see a place like that, drop in 1K and park ur arse for a few days!
