Question- When visiting a "Gorean" land, one gets a note card that says you must follow certain rules of their land. If you dont, you can be "killed" and banned. How does this work? If you are killed, what happens? How do you know if you are in a place where you can be killed or if they are just bluffing. Can they ban you and if so, for how long? Is there a section where you can read about the danger zones and rules etc for them? Thanks!

"Killing" in SL can only happen on damaged-enabled land, and just involves you getting teleported back to your home location. Look up along the top of the screen. If you see a heart, you're in damage-enabled land. They can ban anyone they want from their land for whatever reason, just like anyone else can on their own land in SL. You won't find too many damage zones in SL - there's the Weapons sandboxes, Jesse and Rauch sims (I might have spelled the last one wrong), and probably some game locations have damage enabled land as part of the workings of the game. It pretty much depends on the owners of the land you're on. For the most part, combat doesn't play a huge role in the SL experience (in my experience, anyway) so I wouldn't get too stressed out over it - chances are you can go weeks without crossing into damage-enabled land.

Not a prob It was a panic moment for me when I first started - "OMG how do I not get killed? I just wanna make a chair!" but its really nothing to stress over. Have fun & welcome!

I have ONCE been killed (to my surprise)... when I was at some ones store or close to it and sent back (killed) .. I was so new that I dident u-stand the warning probably.. if there was one I am not sure..
And on the other hand who has the right to have a security system that ”strong” that you get ”killed” ??? Today I have called up the owner by Im plus abuse reported him/her at once.. it dont feel this systems are a part of SL .. and use it...
I have manualy banned a few at my land - and they deserve it! They dont get killed they only cant land at it...

Jessie & Rausch in case anyone was wondering the spelling Rausch has now been moved to in between the Red & Blue combat sims.

Goreans are just extreme roleplayers and they don't even kill you in the way that the others on this thread talk about. Banning doesn't really fit into the whole gorean RP. So they just roleplay killing you in some unnecessarily violent way then they ban you from the land and take your absense and disappearance as you dying.

Hey c'mon guys...
I'm not a Gorean, but I am a role player (or at least used to be). They have their own lands away from everyone else, and they play the game the way they want to. If you don't like it, then stay away... but let's not call their role play "boring" now. Maybe they find what you or I do to be boring in the same way, but you never find posts here putting down the "Non-Goreans".
There's plenty of room in SL for us all ... just have fun and enjoy it.

Lol, I was just trying to put it into perspective, theres really nothing they can do to affect you. I have no problem with them what-so-ever. I think I just have difficulty seeing how far people can get into it.

OK, sorry if I was a bit heavy handed... but there's all to much bashing minority groups in SL these days, and it makes me uncomfortable.

I'm wondering hypothetically, what would happen should a Gorean group ban a member of say a Furry group. The Furry then gets a wholebunch of friends to visit the same Gorean sim and act in the same manner as the first Furry, thus prompting the mass banning until the ban list is full. Is this even possible? If the Goreans were just role playing would it not be better to assign "unknowns" as "foreign ambassador / master merchant" and entice them into playing in character. Surely banning is ultimately detrimental, and loses trade. It should be for persistant trouble makers only. I'm not Gorean, but have item's i've acquired from Gorean sims. If I found I was ever banned from one, i'd sure as eggs is not buy from any Gorean sim again. Yes I know it's tarring them all with the same brush so to speak, but its within TOS and doesnt involve using an alt to go let off nukes

Metawraith.....to be honest, banning in Gorean sims tends to be a last resort. The reason there are rule cards explaining the "Laws" of the land, is specifically to avoid such..IF possible. Most people who are interested in just taking a look around, wear a "titler" and observe the roleplay without being expected to join in. It's great if they take advantage of the free Gorean outfits, as they tend to blend better than jeans and t-shirts....but it isn't a requirement. What IS a requirement, is for guests to be respectful of the owners stated interpretation of the Gorean Law in his sim. At the end of the day, as I've explained on numerous occasions to visitors to Port Cos, the owner pays the monthly tier and has the right to expect visitors to comply with how he wants things to be. Otherwise...simply don't visit. No one is forced to. Once this is pointed out to those who have missed the notecard or such....most are more than happy to go along with it. However, like everywhere else, there is the occasional griefer, who has come along with the express intention of causing trouble...and if they cannot be reasoned with, and are disruptive of the role play that a lot of people have put a lot of effort into (whether others may find it boring or not)...then yes, they will be kicked. But in effect, it's no different to any other private sim in that respect.

I'm a roleplayer and I dislike Gor. Not because of the BDSM or anything like that (although I must say that is quite... disgusting to me), but because the books they're basing their roleplay on are freaking horrible. The first books were okay, but once it went into long, drawn out philisophical rants about how women were lesser than men, I kind of stopped reading them. I'll take Discworld over [Enter Lame, Unoriginal Title] of Gor any day.
