Argh! security please!

So basically I was up late last night enjoying my time with a pretty woman and minding my own business...

I start to hear a whaling that reminds me of a B movie horror film.... I look at my minimap and there seems to be three of us in my house... joy.

I tell em to leave, they don't... I get up to forcefully eject them, they hop on my furniture and take up space next to my friend... she isn't pleased... after that he took a shapshot in less than a second, obviously he had planned to do this as it was then placed on my mantle like a framed picture... the whaling gets louder and more annoying... I turn the house phantom and blast him, he flies right back and uses a prim to get through the walls after I close and lock the door... joy.

He then joins the rental group I am in and starts to raise the land until my house is burried, and then burries the house across from me owned by the same group for kicks...

After awhile he gets bored, but having stayed long enough to have my friend go to bed, leaves behind a few copies of the picture as well as his mess... grrr... I clean up my property and my neighbors and thats the end of it really... another 10 day account used to grief.

Is there some sort of security system I can use, or my land lord can use (and by extention myself) to keep these people off our land and keep them from screwing it it?

I mean, this really sucked.... its a nice waterfront property, mature, that has a castle on it I help retexture and such, made it look pretty nice... I might have to move if this keeps up, kinda worried I am being harrashed by either someone who wants the property, a jealous friend of mine or hers, or a random fur hater... since they did mention that they hated furries in badly broken, poorly taught AOL speak.

*shakes his head* Can't even have a private moment when I get my own place >.<

Learning to use the built in security would have done the trick. And the greifer probaly ARed you for using a push script/gun on 'im.

If you do get a security script, be sure you learn to use it properly - they can be a blight on everyone else if they're set to be indiscriminant and agressive.

Talk to your landlord about security scripts first before buying one - some are a little "overzealous" and depending on how the rentals are set up, might interfere with your neighbors on the property as well.

A better idea might be to talk to you landlord about putting the individual on the ban list for the property. Its built into SL land permissions, its free, and won't accidently bump people all the way to the edge of the sim.

Yeah, ban tools that actually do something would be a BIG help. The initial motiviation behind the ban tools working in the current fashion was good, but like many systems, its been completed gamed. Many builds rise above 40 meters; griefers can just hover above landing and still spew their vitriol, or drop fireboms. A ban from a parcel should mean A BAN - no entry, no matter the height, no chat from the banned person will enter the parcel, and no items by the banned person should be allowed to enter the parcel.

I'd also like to see land owners able to do invisible IP bans; when banning an individual, you can choose to lock out anyone accessing your parcel from the IP address of the person being banned, without seeing their IP address.

Actually, in this thread, Harris Hare makes a suggestion I think would be the be-all end-all solution to privacy in SL. So, everyone with a stake in being left alone now and again, rush over and read up.

I also proposed ban lines go to max build height. Prposal 999 on the feature voting, if yall are interested. That would prevent greifing like this.

Well i would have reported it to LL #1 and tell the person you did, then make shure land edit is off unless needed. LL is far more effective than any security script can be.Harrasment in any form should be reported. Its your SL and you have a right to enjoy it.
This is why there is a a way to report abuse Use it folks! and make ppl know you do.

That doesn't work unless the ban-against-a-person "redlines" are completely separated from the only-allow-members-of-this-group "redlines"... because so much land is group-only that flying would be a continuous battle of dodging them.

You can only edit land if you're an OFFICER of the group the land belongs to ! This smells very fishy.

My only concern on proposal 999 is that it may harm people who are flying from place to place or even people who build aircraft. Perhaps we should keep the "ban everyone except" lines where they all, and the "ban only if you are" lines allowed to go that high.

Incorrect. I can't name my rental group but any person who is in it may edit the land unless they ask to have it locked down.

Suffice to say I've had everything locked down ^^;; my poor landlord does a lot and I think he does a great job for a one man operation, more or less it is left open so that it can be formed up to allow hottubes and such to be places around the house, then can be locked down once we're happy with it... guessing by the other rental properties he disrupted around mine not many people inform the landlord when they're ready to lock down... not really his fault, I just wish I didn't need to lock things down and that people were more mature...

Ban everyone except allowed should at least cover the groundbased build + 10 meters. Since theres no tool to measure that I proposed max build height.

That's not possible, and banning to build height is unacceptable.
