For those of you who missed the announcement, Linden Lab says we will be switching to SPEEDTREE for our trees and foliage:

Any day now. :)

What announcement?

Maybe this one? :o

"Linden Lab has licensed SpeedTreeRT for use in Second Life (tm), its
revolutionary 3D digital world, and hopes to add real-time’s most popular foliage solution in their next generation client in Q4."

They don't say which year's Q4...

How many threads have you made so far about announcements?
So far I've seen 3..

I was hoping he'd do some more about llTeleportAgent and our revamped permission system, the list definitely doesn't end at 3... ;)
(goes off to beat his head against the new camera functions, swearing that whenever LL adds something fun (like scripted camera controls), they also cripple the coolest uses of it (I.E. not being able to make your camera follow a remote control car), thereby forcing people to create horrible, convaluted, resource using workarounds. ;P)

I really hope this materializes. Of all the "planned but never implemented" features, this is probably the one I'd most love to see... some day. What can I say. I'm a sucker for eye candy.

I agree, Havok, HTML on a prim .. all very nice, but I'd love to see speedtree. I think it would really generate some fantastic screenshots and raise the visual bar for SL.

And in the process make the avatars look flat. *giggles* Well.. then they'll just have to fix the avatars too!
