Ben's quicktime movie at the link "I <3 LL" didn't work.

I did notice this comment on one of Ben's pages:
From: Ben Linden

we need to make a more polished, easier to use Second Life, and in case competition shows up (which we think is very likely this year) we need to continue to innovate in our feature set.
Excellent!
I wonder who it might be?

Hmm, i had trouble with the quicktime movie aswell, downloaded a new version that comes with itunes, you can remove itunes after install. And then it worked fine.

looks like some ragdoll, havok2 action.
I'm sure havok2 is just around the corrrnnner-er-er. fzzt. spark. sizzle. *fire comes out of les's eyes as he slumps over. His robotic face starts to melt and drip on his ankle shadows.*

I use the quicktime alternative said to work better with SL.

My experience with real quicktime is that it aggressively wants to seize your file extensions, run itself in the startup tray, etc. Has that changed?

I was really more interested in Ben's expectation of a competitor to SL this year.

Can someone just make some more gun handling and death anims? And... can we detect collissions if they hit an attachment? I'd love to know if I scored a headshot or not.

lol, atleast we have a amusing clip. ;)

Suezanne, it tries to associate itself with your files and put itself in the system tray, just say no and rightclick close. Don't know if it puts itself in the tray after boot, because i haven't rebooted yet. :p

The earlier quote talked about future competition. While I know you are just taking a sucker punch at SL, I am still curious who the future competition is. At best AW is current competition not future.

From what I've heard, AW is on its way out, so it's likely not them.

OMG - That's hawt! If I'm not mistaken, I think those red things hanging in the back are flexible enabled also. It looks almost as if they are affected by the wind or Ben cranked up the stereo system to high.

Future thing. Les is probably right about the havok2 bit unless LL did their own implementation of flexibility for the current havok engine in use and it is just around the corner.

Wow, hair will get a whole new meaning. I wonder how flexbility actually works though. I notice how the tail only swings around on one end. Is this because of the it physically being in the AV or does flexbility only affect a certain end on prims (eg. the tapered ends)? Hrm...the world may never know.

EDIT: From what I have read online 2.0 is scheduled release for Q1 2006. Of course this has been mentioned from one source posted in August of 2005. Probably reported earlier than that. As always, subject to change.

AW version 4.1 will be launched soon. They've added a few pretties (particles), added a "mover" object (simulates vehicles, and animation overides for things like sit) and prettied up the browser.

The AW friends I've talked to are excited about it, but it still leaves AW several years behind SL.
