Ending grid attacks

So I wanted to talk about how folks thought grid attacks and griefing could be stopped once and for all.

I know some things that won't work. Ending free accounts won't work. People have been attacking games and griefing in such since MMOGs began and the accounts were free then (and for the purposes of this thread, even though I know SL is not a game, we will compare SL to other massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs)).

Villianizing Something Awful or a few people won't work. SA didn't invent griefing and if you get rid of the current griefers (assuming its all part of one group) another group will pop up in its place.

My own favorite theory is going after someone legally. I think that someone needs to be prosecuted and the fact of the prosecution liberally talked about over the net. But that has its problems too. How do you prosecute some asshat in North Korea (for instance)?

So how do we end this?

Sure, that has to happen. If not it's a free ticket to more attackers.

But another big thing is LL just needs to stay one step ahead of them technicalogically speaking. Like having a more visible alarm system on your car so thieves move ahead to the next one in the parking lot. Nothing will prevent 100% of all attacks, but at least make it less convenient.

I don't think there are any simple soloutions. Just increase real world penalities I suppose.

We need to develop a superintelligent AI to gain control of the grid and restore order, to force wayward programs to play dangerous videogames and control access to communication towers with the Users.

Yes, a Master Control Program would be the bee's knees.

I'd say set a limit on number of physical objects in a sim. Just a thought.

I think it's more of a technical problem then a people problem.
People are going to try to crash the grid. Trying to arrest some kid who is crashing SL from some enterweb cafe in brazil or china is not going to happen.

LL need a technical solution.
