Linden lab would donate some place an island or such dedicated to memorials for RL players who have died in RL..
It would of course remain Governor Linden land..
and maybe people could apply to have a memorial placed in a nice garden setting or something?
Just something simple where loved ones in SL could go and visit..

I have noticed quite a few little memorials around the the grid lately.
This would be such a nice thing for LL to do for these users.

I wonder what everyone including Lindens' thoughts are on this?

That seems kinda depressing, really. People die all the time in real life, and I don't think we need to be reminded of it in a game.

So many of us here spend so much time in sl that we are a community and this is a extension of ourselves rl. This community spirit is what keeps sl thriving and growing.
We make very strong bonds and form excellent friendships which sustain us in times of trial in both lives. I feel this is a wonderful idea and as a creator would be honored to offer any services or items I can in the fruition of this ideal. Any who would be offended just need not go to the place. We are here in this a society a mirror of rl. Honouring those who
have lived and loved here is a community effort and would help with the closeure within the community when we lose one of our flock...

Memorials

Your right. I think it is a good idea too, for those who have passed away IRL have touched us all in many ways without even knowing it. Keep their memory alive ! Just because they are gone , doesnt mean they should be forgotten...

I too , would be happy to donate my time to this project.

i think it'd be nice if you could lay out a lines limit and just build a house where ever you wanted to and not have to pay! lol and i think the lindens should donate a few sims to all the poor people to live on so they can live some place! lol not like a sandbox but like a living area, and whever you set your ines to be you can edit, that'd be swell.

Heh, I built 2 memorials for my pets that died. One wasnt even mine! It was my fiance's rat. I was more upset about him dying than she was. :(

A very good idea. It could become difficult to monitor that whatever was placed in memorium was appropriate (whatever that means in SL) and going through applications would be difficult. I'm not sure that the Lindens would want to add to their work load in this way.

I am not familiar with the estate tools yet and wonder if it would be possible for a private entity to create a cemetary, sell small portions, yet retrain the ability to control inappropriate objects. If it is possible, there is definately an opportunity for someone to provide a needed service.

Not to be a smart ass, but what about the well-know, infamous twice-staged death that turned out to be a hoax (since we can't name names)?

I would hate for something like this to be abused in that way for drama and bs.

Could be done, yes, but then you run into the problem of either the owner sucking up $195 a month or killing enough people to make it profitable quickly by selling cheap lots.
