The preview grid for 1.11 is open again.

The asinine white flashbulb going off effect and the equally maddening picture dropping away effect are also back.

If you agree that these two non-functional pieces of visual fluff should be optional please let the Lindens know.

I tried it out in Preview a few minutes ago and yes, this should definitely be optional. The white "flash" is very unpleasant to the eyes on my 19" screen, and the "picture dropping away" anim is irritating and disorienting as my eyes try to focus on something that's slipping away. Also, having the snapshot preview back would be really cool.

LL, in the name of ergonomics, please remove that white flash. It hurts, it's too bright, it doesn't add anything in the way of userfriendliness. I don't look forward doing dozens of product shots when it means getting dozens of split-second white screen flashes.

Nice to hear from someone with similar views. We need to be loud in our requests. Pehaps you would be willing to post your response in Second Life Answers?

It does the picture dropping away animation every time you click on one of the increment/decrement triangles to change the resolution.

Those who agree that this needs to go please speak up on this issue to the Linden staff directly and to others.

It is a shame to have new functions ruined by annoying useless visual fluff.

(It nevers fails, make a serious post, make a type in the header.)

How about making every single line of code in the SL client optional? Would you like that, Sue? :)

If you oppose making this optional perhaps you could express it more clearly than in a generalized question?

I find the effects abysmally stupid to start with.

The render the new snapshot system unusable to me.

I don't really feel it should be optional, what I really feel is that both this glitzy effect shoud be removed and the staffmember who came up with the idea should be forbiden to offer input on interface design. Asking to have the effects made optional is a way of trying to accomodate people who feel like me and those who enjoy seeing the xame useless animated sequence thousands of times in the course of making hundreds of shanpshots.

I get aggravated when I am forced to go through processes that seem moronic and asinine over and over, such as having to slide the cursor to the ruler to use the snap to grid feature.

Many other significant aspects of the program that could be set in coded stone have choices available to suit individual user's preferences.

In Windows, for one example of allowing users to adjust interface elements to their personal satisfaction, there are options in the display settings and appearance settings that allow one to select "Windows XP" or "Windows Classic", and many non-functional sspects of the windows interface are optional, such as transition effect, font smoothing, large icons, shadows under menus, show window contents while dragging, and so on. Hundreds or thousands of aspects of the windows interface that don't have convenient menus to allow user preference to be made can still be made by editing the registry.

lol

I'm in preview right now. Other than the fancy Snapshot feature you've mentioned, I don't really notice anything different.

I'll keep looking...

Zoomable UI is super duper, and that Eye Dropper tool will really come in handy!. Works for textures too!. As for your not so beloved snapshot feature, I can take it or leave it.

Now that we can select our snapshot size, it might be cool if we could select a colour in our snapshots to use as an alpha channel.

I'd really like to disable the white flash. It brings up a reaction of expectation that one should be looking at the moving avatar after the flash is done, not the preview of the snapshot itself. Same goes for the drop away image. It just sends mixed mental signals.

I do like the ability to take off all the clothing under Edit. That's a nice one for a quick "Gotta get nude," for some reason or another.

I agree wholeheartedly that the two effects should be optional. The flash is not so bad to me, but the picture dropping effect is nauseating - it makes me think of all those little Japanese kids who had seizures over Pokemon cartoons. The motion is jarring, especially if you keep discarding your picture to get the right shot.

Overall, I am not in favor of the new snapshot functionality at all. It is a step backward in UI design. The settings are all great and useful, but they should be put into some kind of advanced options dialog, not as the default. The current window is clear and perfectly functional - the new one is definitely not clear and easy to use. Usability is supposed to be improved with updates, not made more complicated.

personally, I think everything should be gray, in block letters, the world should be monochrome.

Every stream should be playing Wagner, and we should have to do everything in Forth, even moving our avatars, which should all be wearing expressionless masks.

Except for IMs - which should be carried on with much shame and self denegration, in German.

You want to turn the whole place into Luskwood? :p
It would be good if you had those options.

Especially Forth, Forth is a thousand times more powerful than LSL.

Yes. That describes exactly what we've done there. After all, everything in Luskwood is monochrome.

If you want to insult me to my face, and what we've maintained for the last 3 years, just come out and do it, Suezanne.

How the hell are we detrimental to SL?

OH! That's right, you probably believe every word that comes out of Pr*kofy's mouth.
