Can you elaborate on what you mean by forged? Do you mean to say that the individuals in question created a skin that is essentially identical to yours, not that they have somhow gotten a copy and are selling the copies as their own creations?

From: Gabe Lippmann Can you elaborate on what you mean by forged? And please hurry before you get yanked for naming names! (Which is not allowed, btw.)

Maybe they don't need them anymore so they are passing them on? Or do you mean that they somehow got full permissions? Or that the box is actually empty?

Sad to say - Welcome to Second Life. My products have been copied numerous times, sometimes with the copying taking place on my own land (though few have had such audacity). A few others buy my essentially 'freebie' $L 1 cabinets and such, and resell them for... $L 45 I think it was. Thats a 4500% markup! But you know what - bully for them, I say. I grin and notice them restocking once in a while in my transaction history. Hey, at least resale value is through the roof! Once in a great, great while - I see someone who didn't do a trashy job on a copy, and though I know full circumstances of how it was copied, I'm actually *proud* of how they did it. Yes! For it is far better to be ruined in style, if it has to happen. What many copiers don't realise is that their friends come to me, and 'rat them out', as the expression goes... why... I don't know. I've seen some fascinating snaps, chatlogs, &c. Honour amongst thieves and all that? During the time while all of this has gone on - it effectively became a form of advertising. Nobody wants a cheap knockoff. I've gained hundreds of customers, and West Trade Imports LTD has its 8192m of land tier covered now, literally, for years. Bad as it sounds, I predict your business will grow from all this.

shapes? now the skins take work in photoshop and some artistic effort but a shape? avatar shapes are created in game using slider tools provided by LL. its just sort of amusing that people charge for, and people pay for avatar shapes.
i have tinkered around with shapes a bit and so, if i were to get a picture of someones avatar, and then recreate it myself using the sliders, am i copying some copyrighted, patented idea? i dont think so. there are many people who know how to make a good avatar shape.
anyone who wants to carefully adjust with an eye to detail can create a good personal look. furthermore every time u change a skin, chances are high u will change the look of your avatar. so having one of these purchased shapes that have no mod on them is just a handicap.

If you feel you've been wronged in this way, you have every right (in the U.S. at least) to file a small claims lawsuit against Jane/John Doe. You can also subpoena LL for the names, contact info of the people who have wronged you. It's the responsibility of the copyright/patent/IP holder to enforce their rights to the property.
Since no company enjoys being forced to give out private user info, I suppose it would only take a few such requests for LL to realize they need to remedy the situation allowing folks to blatantly profit via the work of others.
But you know that posting here will do nothing for your cause... you have to take action yourself, in the real world, if you are THAT concerned about it. Otherwise, you're doing nothing more than honking your horn in a gridlock traffic jam.

Has anyone verified these are copies? And not just the same artwork on the box or just reselling single copies of something they bought??

Well seeing how EVERYONE in SL has access to making shapes and builds it come as no surprise to see a shape or build be copied with ease. any one with enough time on their hands and knowledge of how to bend and mold can duplicate almost anything here just by looking at it figureing out what you did to get that certain effect and VUALA!!! an exact replica.
So this comes as no surprize to me.
