Currently our island (Eventide) is suffering a kind of split where there are at LEAST two versions of the island running. We can duplicate a problem where some people are in one "shard" of the island, others in another. People cannot see others from the other shard(s). Sim restarts on each shard don't even affect the others. And items built on one shard don't appear in the other.
I have no idea if this problem is constrained to our island(s) alone, or if the problem is more widespread. We don't know if it's two shards or more than that. I'm concerned that when the problem is solved, the invalid shards of the island (and anything built upon them) will vanish. The Lindens are apparently too busy to look into the issue currently (maybe they already are?), but I thought all private island owners should be made aware of the issue...it took us over a day to nail down what's been happening. Hopefully, it's just us, but if you're experiencing some very odd behavior...

- Javier What class of server are you running? What kind of load do you have in terms of scripts, agents, physics, &c.? Who are you sharing with at the moment - do they have problems too? Was this during a time when the asset server was behaving properly? I haven't seen or experienced anything like this, but I would sure like to see it firsthand. I'm not keen on discovering it the hard way.

Actually, the latest info from the Linden Liason is that two machines picked up our island after a crash or something. But the fact is, TWO disparate machines seem to be running valid instances of Eventide Island at the same time. I'm standing on the next sim over and they seem to be duking it out. Every 15-20 seconds the sim vanishes to be replaced by the other shard...over and over...different people appear and disappear... It's fascinating, I can't look away! The good news is this is probably JUST our island having this issue. I just hope they don't charge us for two islands.  - J |

The gridmonkeys worked it out and everything's back to normal now. At least we'll recognize the symptoms if it ever happens again. Really bizarre problem there. - Javier |
