I'm glad that's over.
Most of the angst and drama has faded - until next weekend when... Let me see <digs out diary and checks schedule> ah yes, time for either a grid attack or massive login database failure. Place your bets here!

Seriously though. Weekends are pretty much a write-off in SL lately, what with one thing and another, though I did get a bit done on Sunday - but do we have to have all the resulting blood and snot flowing in the forums?
OK, the update was (insert your choice of epithet here). So?
The repercussions rumbled on until Sunday. So?

There's been a lot of shouting and breast beating about the individual impact of various 'features'. Like 'If it affects ME - OMG!!! it's a disaster!'.
What's needed around here is a bit of perspective.

The 'delete all scripted objects in the estate when you only wanted to delete one' feature was pretty apocalyptic I must admit.
The 'rip textures with the eyedropper' one was hardly a great leap forward either.
Personally I thought the 'overcrowding in the corner of the sim' issue was a bit overstated - but that might have been because by that point I didn't have any scripted objects to play with any more...

But other than that, the rest of it was hardly worth all the fuss.

I mean, the snapshot tool has become risible - so? I didn't use it much before, and now I won't use it at all.

The pie menu? Well it's just a pointless visual effect, annoying yes, but, hey, this is SL after all. Anyway, what was all the 'gestural' crap about. I don't see any difference other than that crappy visual effect?

Oh, and the cursor loosing focus all the time... Pah - nothing, just a minor inconvenience. I don't mind leaping around like a loon when I try to speak.

Then there was a bit of a problem in the texture picker... well, I don't know what all the fuss was about, just because it reduced me to gnawing the edge of my desk in frustration as I tried to retexture part of a build I wasn't happy with.

Oh, and the disabling of the 'delete' key function in the parameters fields in the build tools - hey! At least it makes you stop and think before you change stuff.

Autoselect of the entire parameter field? Well, that's probably why 'delete' was disabled...

The thing is, there are so many other 'features' in SL that I really don't see what all the fuss is, just because Christmas came early this year so to speak.

After all, in the last week I've managed to get nearly a quarter of the work completed inworld I'd planned on and should have completed.
Now if I were a 'glass half empty' guy. I migh see reason to complain. If I were a 'glass half full' type I'd be telling all and sundry what a great place SL is.
I'm neither. I'm a 'who just knocked my glass over?' guy.

Now I'm off to tidy up the griefer's mess in my 63 person ban list estate, and, if I have any spare time after that, see if I can catch up on my workload.

Happy days!

Let's not forget the 'allow anyone to delete anything anywhere on the grid' bug. That one was barely worth mentioning really.
