I wouldn't want to be in their shoes right now.
Pages and pages of complaints at the smallest of things, pages and pages AND PAGES of complaints every time they try to fix problems, pages of complaints when they don't fix things in the "right" order, pages of complaints, pages of complaints, pages of complaints.
That's enough to bring the morale of ANY company down. Is that what all you complainers are trying to do? How in the world are they supposed to come to the "standards" that you complainers want? Do you realize how much stress SL programmers are under right now? Any clue at all?
And here's something to ponder: When so many people complain about so many things, what should they be basing what is "important" to fix first on?
Too many cooks spoil the soup--they can only get so many programmers to work on this at a time. PATIENCE!! HAVE SOME F**KING PATIENCE PEOPLE!!!!!
Be glad they're not as big of an operation as Microsoft where no one programmer knows most of what makes up Windows because each person's job is broken apart into tiny little sections which ends up making it like this story I was told:
People working on a huge telescope. Every piece that made it up was meticulously looked at individually. After all the parts that weren't perfect were replaced, they spend weeks putting it together, and go to look through it and find it completely unusable because there was a problem with the way everything lined up. They were paying so close of attention to all the little things that they couldn't see a crucial problem, they couldn't see the big picture.
Microsoft has that same problem, and I'm glad that SL does not. Be happy that they're working on the problems as diligently as they are. Be happy that they have us doing a lot of the beta testing--if they had to do all the research themselves, SL would be just another project that never would have gotten off the ground.
SO HAVE SOME F**KING PATIENCE!!!

You're right. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
And yes, the OP in my topic was a little more venomous than I intended to be.
However, you can see the response it generated...
Seems controversy inspires views/hits (who'da thunk?).
My point was to highlight how absurd this whole downtime mess is, and, really, how unnecessary this (now commonplace) disruption is...
For the record, I'm not saying the downtime isn't necessary once in awhile. I am, however, and will continue to say that when it happens so often as to completely write off the entire day every week that there are serious issues that need to be addressed in how updating is handled.

And the worst is the pages of complaints about people complaining about complaints!

I was told a story too once....
I'm trying hard to remember what it was about but it eludes me presently. I'll get back to you all though should I recall the specifics.
I don't think it had anything to do with telescopes though so it is probably not appropriate anyway!

Frankly, all this would only be a problem if they are reading this instead of fixing things.

Well, you could have something there--they may not be reading the boards much because they know they're filled with mainly a bunch of complainers who just want to be heard by -someone- even if it's just other users.
It's unfortunate that this downtime is happening, but they're trying to do things in a program that isn't being done in any other program. They're allowing for options and freedoms of the users that no other program offers. This entire concept of this type of program is a beta idea. Maybe in the future there will be SL clones so-to-speak that won't have these problems, but there isn't anything quite like SL, and it will probably be a couple years that these kinds of problems will occur. This is the type program that can possibly change the face of the gaming industry and the mindset of what a computer program is capable of.

From: someone I wouldn't want to be in their shoes right now... because if I were, when I got the shoes adjusted to where my toes were in the right place, the ankle strap would be running through my Achile's tendon.

Well, who complains about what is the problem.
It's obvious to the smarter of us what is IMPORTANT. Like STABILITY. Not making pretty new lights on pie wedges, or changing the way snapshot worked, or changing the word Find to Search.
Fixing bugs that have been around for more than a month. Listening to beta testers from the test grid. Effectively resolving server side issues for lag and organizing user servers differently to be more efficient. Finding a better and more efficient way to control the LindeX, instead of using Stipend excuse (removing stipends for non casual players allows LL to make money off the buying of Lindens from those who never needed to before).

SO HAVE SOME F**KING PATIENCE!!! No, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, I don't like doing a substandard job and then relying for defense on fanboys and modern day consumers who are too brainwashed to demand quality or too wimy to stand up for themselves and just accept whatever is shoveled at them by business. The people here are like the couple that was in the restaurant last week at the table next to mine. Overheard them saying to another person that joined them they had already been waiting 45 for their food and seen others served first, but that they wouldn't complain about it. Heavens forbid the average wimpy consumer would do more than rationalize and tolerate (and even defend poor service), and keep right on getting the same level of crap service. Its people like you that greenlight the lindens to do a half-a**ed job...they know that a major chunk of 'consumers' on the forums will leap to their defense regardless of how poor they do or how many untested patches are shoveled out. No incentive to do better.

Maybe Microsoft should take it over and require the latest beta version of Windows Genuine Advantage to install it. Again, this program is doing things that no other program is doing--there's going to be problems.
