Why is it some malls ask you to set your items to their group and some do not.
Are there advantages and disadvantages to both parties concerned?

If it's group-owned land, it allows them to set autoreturn without your stuff being returned if it's set to group.

Setting items to group allows the mall to easily keep track of unauthorized objects, and they can set autoreturn. There's not a real disadvantage I can think of for the mall.
From the renter's perspective, there's no real advantage to setting things to the group that I can think of, and it's one extra group to join. In my shopping area, which is small, I just keep track of who's allowed to build there, and let them set whatever groups they want. |

more benefits on the way

I'm hoping the group patch will add more benefits to the setting stuff to group..
I want to be able to turn outside scripts off but that not affect things set to group.. Mostly for events so hoochie mccoochie and his/her million lights of bling can't ruin the event. Not sure if that will be a feature or not.. *crosses fingers* |

I have my mall vendors set things to my group so that I can use autoreturn to keep things cleaned up (lots of people who shop have a tendency to leave empty boxes lying around otherwise). But knowing how inconvenient it can be to renters to have to join a dozen different groups, I keep my group open enrollment so that they can join, place their things, and leave the group afterward if they want, then rejoin later if they need to.
I agree Zalandria, that would be a very nice feature to have. _____________________

In the parcel properties there is a new checkbox for 'Allow Group Scripts' (wording from memory, may be slightly different), that will allow any objects with their group matching the group the land is 'set to' to run. Uncheck 'allow other scripts' to get the proper effect. ![]() http://www.secondlife.com/preview _____________________
