It it possible in SL, or does it already exist, for there to be a way to bring a 'portable security orb with you? I've heard a number of people proclaim that a "security orb" would allow a spherical area around that orb to be protected - to allow one or more people who own that orb or are on an authorized use group for that orb to do such things as freeze an individual, document abuse incidents, teleport someone home, eject someone from the parcel/protected area... But these are all tied to a specific parcel that you own, or to land that a group that you belong to owns.
Can it be portable? How much of that could be incorporated into a personal shielding device? How much is irrevocably tied to parcel land controls?
Is there any way that a person can have a personal 'safe zone' that would prevent people on a personal 'ban list' from approching closer than a pre-defined radius, while allowing all others free passage? Something that would follow the protected individual around, while keeping a griefer or undesired person away?
In short, what sort of protections can be made available to an individual who does not wish to be trapped on land that they paid for? I exclude from this any system that requires me to 'shoot back' with a weapon (an AR offense and escalating the problem), or other options which involve an action that clearly could get me AR'ed or banned for using it in self-defense (like the 'Yorick' orbiter HUD).
Any suggestions of suitable already available security orbs or personal shields, weather tied to the parcel they are on or portable, would be appreciated. My searches in-world and on SLB and SLX haven't yet yielded much in the way of 'security systems' that I would be willing to pay for. Ideally, it should allow me to be able to move freely and should be unobtrusive. Something to allow me to be safe without having to ride around inside a tank or a visible 'goldfish bowl'.

Well. If the land you're presently on had an interface for a portable security system, I suppose it could work. For the rest of the time you'd want a shield, a place to sit, or an orbitter.

If all you are looking for is a portable device that will keep unwanteds at a distance from you there is currently available such a device. It will not protect you from being harmed/orbited from a distance however. for that you need additional devices.

Ceera, I use Psyke's Personal Security HUD, which has the features you're wanting plus more (like anti-push shield). You can create a personal "ban" list with it but I haven't used that feature yet.

Thank you for replying, Burke.
I've looked at your orbiter, and am unwilling to escalate matters by orbiting someone, which is an offense that could get me banned or AR'ed. If I thought shooting back was acceptable, I'd pack a pair of Lawgivers or some other high powered weapons system. But I don't want to be playing a first person shooter game here. In my opinion, shooting back just increases the griefer's enjoyment, and makes the shooter as bad as the griefer.
Obviously sitting offers some protection, if you realize a problem is imminent. And I know one can use a non physical vehicle that allows you to move around and look like you are walking, while still technically 'sitting'. But sitting only helps after you've realized the attack is in progress, and I find the idea of the 'sit vehicle' to be very awkward.
Can anyone recommend any shields that are at all worth using? I have no interest in going to Jesse or other combat sims, so I don't care that someone with a big enough gun can still punch through a shiekd or movelock. Is there anything that will remain passive until the wearer is attacked, and that will protect them (move lock, shield, whatever) when an attack happens, while leaving them otherwise free to enjoy SL?

Outside of your own land, I can't see how you have the right to determine where people can and can't go. It's quite different from what they are allowed to do do you.

Yes it is.
I have a prototype probe written which can move about freely using physics, tracking targets, crossing sim lines, patrolling specific areas, etc. And while it can be pushed, most of the time it will return itself back to its post using its own navigation system.
I designed it, more or less, for my own knowledge, but I have considered loading it with a few custom defensive/weapon systems and putting it on the market for 100 or 200 L.
I used to write AI for MUD creatures, and have wondered how well such AI could be applied to security devices, allowing them to call out to each other, work in tandem, and even rally one another to a point of call.

Well, after talking to the owner of the sim that I own land in, I purchased one of Psyke's Security Orbs for my skybox, and Psyke's Personal Security HUD for myself. Personally, I don't want to use either one unless I absolutely have to. But at least now I have some way to defend myself.

I have three different versions, they are essentially Push scripts that automaticly repel to a preset distance anyone appearing on your "Ban" list.
Each one is only effective against standing persons.
