there is particle weather system in luskwood -snow and rain.. and there is 'wind' since the new flexi prims are affected by it

I have seen both rain and snow. It's done as a particle effect, as I understand it. Haven't yet bothered to figure out how they did it.
For any sort of weather, it would be nice, on a sim level, to be able to control the cloud layer. Looks kind of silly when it's raining out of a clear blue sky, or even from flufy white clouds. _____________________

agreed lol i play wow and it rains and there is no lag, so i know sl could do it sl is streaming and WoW is not... so there's a different in lag there. i play WoW on dial up and it works just fine only a wee bit of lag. SL however won't even load on my dial up, which is why i have to play it at my boyfriend's |

The big problem with any sort of particle effect 'weather' or any particle effects that cover a large area, is that they don't always rez for those of us on smaller, less powerful systems. Rain and snow don't matter too much in that regard, as they tend to be small particles in the first place.
Sometimes when someone at a club fires off a particle effect 'poofer' or other gadget, all I see is a 'smoke screen' of grey squares, that fade before they ever have time to rez for me. Most of the time, I have't got a clue what it was they were tossing around. Could be smiley faces, or hand grenades, and it all looks the same to me. _____________________

It was raining at my gallery (Nectaris Art) up until last week when I remembered it was Summer and probably time to stop! Mind, I'm British so it wasn't totally unrealistic...
I like to simulate the seasons where I can. My trees change colour with the seasons and in Winter it snows and the water freezes over for skating I enjoy playing with the atmosphere and having it feel different at different times.It would be nice if there was changeable weather in SL, but I bet some people would be upset about it Particle rain dropping through your roof (didn't I read that used to be the case?) and preparing an event for weeks and then literally having it rain on your parade?!More atmospheric detail would be lovely though. Imagine storm clouds gathering in the distance and the flicker of lightning in the skies... I'd be happy to do away with these endless blue skies (probably someting to do with being British again I guess!) |

Stop by Fantasia tonight after 4pm SL time and I will have it thunder storming on my property for you.
Try out the water slide while you're there....it's really cool! Gage |

There is also rain on Numbakulla sim, in the flower village, which was made by the revered scripter Ratt Foo.
On his plot in Albion, the Geyser, he has lightning, rain and...a geyser too. Cali _____________________

Its about time we get a weather report in SL!!!
I mean, I know it's always 78 degrees, party cloudy, however also always sunny. Nights are a cool 70 degrees. However, I wanna know which ways my flexyprims will be blowning for the day. And I wanna know if I'm going to need a coat for the day. _____________________

As evidenced by all the prior posts, particle weather is pretty easy to do on a local basis. To my understanding, the main thing that keeps LL from doing any sort of "global" weather thing is getting the prim umbrellas to work.
(In other words, particle->prim collision)._____________________

At the Selador Gallery and adjoining island it sometimes rains, and sometimes there's even a thunderstorm.

An 'in the backburner idea' for LL..... it'd be cool to have parcels of land have the options for a few various weathers, and also a random button.
There also may be a cool simulation or game out of dealing with a disaster: IE a sim set up and then a major destructive event occurs, and people have to do stuff to make it cooler than before. _____________________
