...and those of you who are posting angry messages about not being able to log on sound like a bunch of six-year olds. Get a grip.

you're wrong because they're all rollerskating and throwing a lightswitch rave in the colo right now. Some of them even have PVC pants on, and there's a lot of "oontz oontz" music going on.

Well, you know what I mean. I know sometimes it's closed for maintenance purposes, but I mean they don't just thumb their noses at us and keep us out to spite us.

Jeffrey -- do we really need to go into the P2P discussion again? And why it really, really, really isn't viable?

Is THAT what I heard when I was trying to log on? Geez... OK, people, I'm sorry. Resume forming angry mob with torches and pitchforks.

The System is Down, obviously, is needed here.

I was about to say the same thing Phoenix.

Everyone demanding compensation.... etc. I don't remember reading anywhere that we were owed compensation for downtime, but then again I am new and may have not read all of the fine print yet. :)

I must admit I haven't memorised the EULA or ToS , but I do know the one for World of Warcraft and Anarchy Online and would assume the Lindens have a similar point in the ToS.

This point would be that there is _no_ guarantee of a 24/7 service and no claims can be made in any way , shape or form if the game is inaccessible for some time.

I'll edit this post when I find that referrence in the Linden's ToS

Found it here: http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php

From: someone
3.8 Service Credit for Unscheduled Downtime. You will be eligible to receive Service Credit toward recurring service fees (e.g. monthly account fees, 90 Day account fees, annual account fees, and land use fees) for Unscheduled Downtime. "Unscheduled Downtime" is an unplanned or unscheduled interruption in Service availability for a period of at least twenty-four (24) hours during which you are unable to access the Service. Unscheduled Downtime is measured from the time the Service is 100% unreachable for a period of at least twenty- four (24) hours until Service is once again restored. The following are excluded from the calculation of Unscheduled Downtime: (i) scheduled maintenance downtime; (ii) problems outside of our Service (upstream providers, or your inbound connection) not affecting 100% loss to our Service; (iii) interruptions or failure of Service caused by you or your representatives (including inaccurate configuration, third-party software, abuse or over-utilization of resources, hacked servers, attacks, exploits, or server hardware failures); and (iv) causes beyond Linden's reasonable control and occurring without Linden's fault or negligence, including natural disasters, wars, terrorist acts, riots or other violent upheaval, governmental restrictions and actions, and performance failures of a third party outside Linden's control. The amount of any Service Credit will be based on the pro rata percentage of Unscheduled Downtime during your billing cycle (e.g., if there is 1 day of Unscheduled Downtime in a 30-day month for your monthly account, you will receive a Service Credit for 1/30th of your recurring service fees). Any Service Credit will be credited to you during your next billing cycle.

I have underlined the relevant part for your convenience.
So for all the people who are moaning about "omgwtfbbq giev monay" or somesuch ... relax , take a break and try to get back ingame later.

No Lindens dont have to repay you for being unable to log in for 5 hours , deal with it.
You basicly agree to this ToS each time you patch/install the game.

They don't have to, but at the same time, they could decide to if it became in their best interest to do so. I'm not suggesting that it is or it isn't, but simply being written in the ToS does not make it a clearcut case. There are many different factors involved here. The ToS is but one.

And I don't see anything wrong with people complaining.

Oh, well, I don't really care. I just want to get back in world. :p

They don't have to. And I don't really care if they don't, either. But they have in the past, and nobody is saying that they won't. I think the people who are screaming that they must are just saber-rattling because they can't find a puppy to kick.

The chances of compensation happening, actually, are not that remote. And while I think it'd be a courtesy if they did and not a neccessity, I just wouldn't bank on it.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR WAITING GUYS!

From: Jeska Linden
We have reopened the Second Life login to all Residents. I apologize for the delay and any inconvenience it may have caused to everyone unable to log in. Please note that login may be slow while everyone attempts to login at once.

We are still having login trouble on the Second Life web site, which we are currently working on. As soon as we have any further information on this trouble, we will be sure to post it here.

Thank you all for your continuing patience during the database issues we experienced today.

Logging in still just hangs for me, at "Logging in. Second Life may appear frozen. Please wait."

It hung once for a long time, then I closed it and tried again. The second time it hung a long time as well, and then I got the message saying I was being logged in from another location.

NM -- in now. Guess it was everyone hammering on it.
