Poll to come...
Here are some quotes off a SL Greeter and Mentors profile, Do you think this is setting a good example? What would you think if this person was the first to welcome you to SL?

Real Life and second Life is very much the same. greedy people in real life that are the same way on second life.. Watchout for people offering free things and then saying "you can`t take this" well to that i say GET OUT OF THE SECOND SELLING BUSINESS" Better yet Get out of second all together.

Setting a Image is everything. One needs not follow but instead they should lead in life. Hence guidance is everything in your early years. Don`t mess it up, prepare right for your SL life, ask a Mentor to build your skills and abilities. Need help with anything please ask. Thats is why I exist here in the GREAT GAME OF SECOND LIFE. I love you all :) Newbie and Oldies are always welcome to ask questens:)
I have Had the best Mentor in the Game to learn from..........I Miss you *****.I only give the best because I learned from the best. Others Called a good game as they say But its when one is called to solve a issue or problem is when the pro come out to play. Well for the others.....they only dream of the day. Since LLabs THINKS its important to hire people for the helper group more then less unhelpful and ass kissing type. I don`t speak japanese in this game for that reason againsted LLabs. They want a japanese mentor for free HELL NO! Let them pay 11.50 p/h for a JAPANESE LINDEN!

just like real life people can be as greedy and selfish in second life.. But what worse is those same people are stealing content belonging to the creators of such works....These cheaters of copying objects and stealing copywriten images and reselling for money on sl the are These are really lowlife people just like Real Life. Don`t assume stealing other people works is the only way to make money on sl. Sooner or later you get foundout. ANd if your Lucky The FBI might not stand infront of your door asking questen about your content items. Stealing on SL is just like RL if you need to do so then well you in a new of JOB!

I think I know from which profile those quotes came :D

This person is sometimes quite vocal, and I've seen her hiding behind English not being her first language, but I don't think she is actually a bad mentor/greeter and I'm sure she has nothing but the best intention.

If I had to point out bad examples of volunteers that give a bad name to the groups I really would look in another direction.

maybe this person is a good mentor, I have no idea... but how can calling people greedy, flakes and stupid be good intentions?

Well, we all think some other people are stupid, don't we? :D That doesn't mean no one has good intentions. In any case, I meant good intentions in her greeter/mentor activities ;)

This is the least of the problems with the Greeter/Mentor program.

I think there is a more important question here, which is: should helpers

a) make sure newbies are warned about scams, thus risking giving the impression of SL being full of crooks, or
b) not worry about warning newbies about scams, thus risking them becoming victims later on?

Noobies are new players.. not children... they dont need a shining example of humanity to teach them the basics of Second life...
