I wish to make some gestures using my own voice for use in SL. Can anyone tell me just how to do this, what free programs may be available on the internet to make the right voice clips according to SL specs. I looked on the wiki and could not find the exact steps I need to take. Thank you in advance.

You can use just the normal sound recorder, just make sure you save it to 44.1kps or whatever the specs in SL are, I can't remember, it's been too long!

George, provided you are running Windows XP, you can use Windows Sound Recorder to do this. It is included with XP and can usually be found in Start / All Programs / Accessories / Entertainment. If you have trouble finding it, let me know when I am in-world and I will hunt down the file path for you. In some XP installations, the executable is included but there is no shortcut in the menu.
Edited: Here is the path to the Sound Recorder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndrec32.exe _____________________

I looked on the wiki and could not find the exact steps I need to take. Thank you in advance. Audacity is a good free audio editor. Clips must be WAV (PCM) format, and I believe should be sampled at 16bit/44kHz. Those last two variables might be changeable, but work great for my audio uploads. Bear in mind that clips can be no longer than 9.99 seconds long too. Gesture creation in the SL client is *very* straightfoward. Just use "Create > New Gesture" from the inventory menu, and use the buttons to add new animation, sound, chat...and/or waiting time between multiple selections. If the UI doesn't make sense, just double click an existing gesture to see how it works. _____________________

The only caveat is that sound files uploaded to SL are limited to 10 seconds in length. Just split up any longer sound files into separate 10 sec long files and have the gesture play each file simeltanously.

Hi Perse

I have the sound recorder on this pc at work and at home. I made a short clip but the 44.1khz option was not there. Am I doing something wrong.
Hi again, You have always been extremely helpful! Keep up the great work! |

I've made several gestures using my own voice, some i even altered. Anyone here have that gesture that makes you backflip and say "YIFFY! ^.^" in a high pitched voice? Thats me!

Now, just make sure you overuse the sound clips at events. Play them after everything anybody says.
I need more reasons to mute people and their sounds. (THANK YOU FOR BLOCKING SOUNDS AS WELL NOW LL! I WUB JOO) The snorting "ROFL" one is my particular pet peeve. Probably because dippy people like to spam it mercilessly while complaining about lag. ![]() |
