I don't know if anyone else already linked to this... I found this on Google Video this afternoon. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5182759758975402950&q=%22second+life%22&pr=goog-slGoogle TechTalks March 1, 2006 Philip Rosedale and Cory Ondrejka ABSTRACT Linden Lab is the producer of Second Life, an online world with a growing population of subscribers (or "residents" ; currently, the community has well over 140,000 residents from 91 countries. By providing residents with robust building and scripting tools, Linden Lab enables them to create a vast array of in-world objects, installations and programs. Since its early stages, Linden Lab has allowed its residents to retain full IP rights over their own creations, thereby insuring that their contributions to the community remain truly their own.

Watching it now. Good find! Who's the introductory speaker? Apparently worked for LLab? Taken by Google? Interesting. edit: nevermind, hunter.

I wish it was true that you didn't have to worry about boundaries, the way Phillip says, but until you can "move into the void" or they fill in all the voids with void sims that's just not so.

Great video But before anyone jumps to any conclusions, I just want to say that what Philip said about me - not all of it is actually true.... The most important thing to "correct" is that the Seburo was a joint project between Neil Protagonist and myself. Grain of salt and all that

That's pretty cool! Just watched the first 15 minutes or so, going to go back and finish it later. That's the first time I've heard The Grid described as 'sexy.' Hearing Philip talking about it makes me enthusiastic about it all over again. On an unrelated note, what was that last thing Cory was playing with, the sort of huge column of fire with skeletons running back and forth in it? That was way cool.

Someone should tell the fastest builder in SecondLife about ctrl-z after shift-drag Interesting stats: 2000 cpu core .. 2000 sims. gigabit per second, at peak. 84kbs average per client Anshe is now making 175,000 a year. OoOh! interesting quotes: "why aren't the graphics better?" "classifieds is a great and growing business" - search is obviously a key asset. "we can't stop people from stealing textures" "if you talk about billboards .. we'll never do that" "starax's wand is the coolest thing you can own in secondlife"

That would be the "hell" object from Starax's magic wand. Best L$15k-to-fun ratio I've ever had, between the free updates and the ability to impose cartoon physics at will.

I don't complain about the graphics. I do warn people that it's not gonna be Spirits Within or anything. I do complain about the overhead on te gpu and processor.

From: Iron Perth "starax's wand is the coolest thing you can own in secondlife" Grmmble grmmble Dragon *mutters* Interestingly too, Philip says future GPUs will allow SL to be on-par with other games by making prelighting / preculling unecessary. I doubt so though :/

Yes. By 2.0 we'll have the metaverse!
Whichever one comes sooner, 2.0 or the Metaverse.
