hello everyone

I am very new to SL and not sure if someone has discussed this before (if so please point me out to the old thread plse)

as a new player I receive tons of useful information, unfortunately there is no way to re-read all the tips and explanations (or I have not found it yet)

It would really help if the chats wont expire so a new member could read later the tons of information, instead of gathering it again and again

your comments about this are welcome and appreciated

for the record tho you can open up the chat history box and copy it out of there and paste it in a notecard, ask first if your going to post it in a public place tho

As Osgeld has mentioned, but you may have missed, there is a way to save all the chat, and to look again at things which have gone past too fast. The history button is next to the chat bar at the bottom of your screen. Everything that you have typed and people have typed to you in chat since the last time you logged on, is in the history page.

If things go past too fast, open up your history page...you can have it open down the screen which will give you more time to look at it, or you can cut and paste the material in the history box.

The way to do that is to open the history box, and click and drag the text to highlight what you want to copy. This can be a bit frustrating if you are in an area with chat going on, as it will keep cancelling your highlighting when someone says something else. So either ask people to keep quiet - or go somewhere quiet to do it.

If you want all your chat the easiest thing is to click in the history box, then go to edit at the top of your screen, and choose "select all", then in the same edit menu choose copy.

Right click on any of the folders in your inventory (but notecards makes the most sense) and choose "new note" in the list that appears.

Click on the new note to open it, click in the blank page, and then go up to the edit menu again and choose "paste". That will paste the text into the notecard. There are shortcuts for all these things, but I think those can be confusing if you aren't used to the conventions of how the notecards work. In fact a lot of the shortcuts are the same as for word etc.

If you want to, you can edit your text at this point. I often take out the long list of people coming in and out which happens if no one says anything for a while. When you have finished, save the notecard. It is good to right click it and rename it when you have finished...put something that will remind you why you wanted to save it, like "getting stuff out of boxes info".

You can set up new folders in your Notecard folder, so that you can organise the notecards you will collect. Just right click on the Notecard folder and choose new folder. You can right click it and rename it to help find those cards.

Incidentally, cards themselves are the most underused resource in SL. If you have full perms pictures, scripts, textures, objects - they can all be dropped into a notecard. Just drag them to where you want them. That way, if you have taken instructions and copied them from history, you could add pictures and objects too.

Hope this helps

Oh! I didn't know we could add scripts and objects to notecards! Well, wait, I MUST have known that. I just didn't apply it to notecards I write, I guess.

What I wish is - if you are in the middle of an IM with somebody - and they log off - that it would TELL you that. Lots of times I have IM's going kind of very casually off and on with no one saying goodbye, then you type in something 15 minutes later and feel like an idiot cause they have logged off.

I'm not big on having to say goodbye, that's not it at all. I just wish it would say when people log off.

thanks so much to you, who took the time to answer and my apologies that I took so long to react to your comments :-)

I am being so turned on from SL and busy learning that I didnt come back to this thread

Caliandris, what you suggest works only IF you dont crash in between, what happened to me and I lost everything what had been said, that is why I came to the idea that it would be a helpful feature if our chats would be saved so we could re read them

wishing you all a happy Sunday and a good start in the new week.. we, in germany are lucky, Monday is a Holiday.. yipihhh (sigh but SL is down.. lol)
