I was browsing ebay the other day and came across this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190001857150I thought wow, it's taken me a year to build my company to what it is, someone has written a nice lil "How To", so I was curious and bought it for $10. When I received it and opened it I was quite disappointed to find a collection of notecards that we all have in our inventory including things like: Linden's clothing templates How to make prims The Gimp Notecard The Photoshop tutorial how to deed land etc, etc Notecards I already have in my inventory written by various people. Now.. each page does not have the person that wrote the tutorial, but there is a collaborative credits page which lists a few but not all of the notecard authors nor what they actually wrote. The person selling this did nothing but take notecards from their inventory, copy it into Word, throw together a partial name-listing credit page, throw a $10 price-tag on it, and is now making money on it. And to top it all off, they didnt even bother changing the wording. Copy + Paste + Pricetag = Copyright Infringment If you are any of these people, you might be interested in checking out that link where someone is selling your words: Liz Millions Anna Grant Inferniel Solvang Jopsy Pendragon Romeo Donovan Ben Linden Brace Coral Cailyn Miller Judy Brodie Brace Coral Lumiere Noir Kex Godel Jamie Otis They seem to be operating under the name of gc_enterprises at ebay!

Yep! plagerism and copywrite infringement. Someone who's notes have been copied and pasted must contact the seller and ask him to remove it from ebay and everywhere else. Any money made can be disputed in court. Ebay can also be informed

Cherub, will you also post the topics of some of the notes (other than all the basic stuff)? I'm interested in trying to figure out who wasn't credited

Sigh...I hate people who do this kind of crap.
They have another auction open for this as well - item # 200001803280.
If you are one of the people whose work is being sold you can send a notice of electronic copyright infringement to eBay by emailing them at: vero@ebay.com. VeRO is their Verified Rights Owner group and deals directly with copyright infringement.
Unfortunately I have to email them a lot as my RL work is constantly being stolen and used on eBay. If anyone needs a standard form letter that contains all the information they require to take down the listing feel free to send me a PM here or an IM in world.

Prolly better just to post the form letter. Here is what eBay has you fill out to report infringement. I believe the first report you have to actually sign and fax in. After that they keep your signature on file and will accept email reports: Electronic Notice of Claimed Infringement Date: eBay Inc. Attn: eBay VeRO Program 2145 Hamilton Ave. San Jose, CA 95125 Fax Number: (40 516-8811 Dear eBay: I, the undersigned, state UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY that I am, the owner, or an agent authorized to act on behalf of the owner, of certain intellectual property rights (IP Owner); I have a good faith belief that the listings identified below (by item number) offer items or contain materials that are not authorized by the IP Owner, its agent, or the law, and therefore infringe the IP Owner's rights; and the information in this notice is accurate. Please act expeditiously to remove the following listings. Item Numbers: List (or representative list) of works infringed: I may be contacted at: Name and Title: Company: Address: email address (for eBay): email address (for sellers): Telephone: Fax: In addition to the undersigned, the following persons have the proper authority to sign future Notices of Claimed Infringement on behalf of the IP Owner: Name:_______________________________ Name:_______________________________ Name:_______________________________ Name:_______________________________ Truthfully, /S/: YOUR FULL NAME HERE

no... SERIOUSLY???
06-29-2006 21:38
did you buy this item ACTUALLY expecting to find some SECRET "OMG WTF BBQ" material to make money?!?
REALLY?!?
someone selling ANY "secrets" on eBay is NEVER selling any real secrets to ANYthing!!
i'm not saying you're gullible or anything.. just..
it's SO obvious!
the warnings to those listed are justifiable warnings, granted.. but do yourself a favor.. (AND you're old enough to know) if you want to make ANYthing of yourself in SL.. just do it of your OWN merit!
i'm really not trying to bash anyone who falls for this.. but, you truly can't expect to find anything of true worth through an eBay "YOU CAN MAKE TEH MONEY!!!11!!1!!!" auction.
seriously..
but, in all fairness, a legit "head's up" to those who are being used in this scam.. so, thanks for that.
just do yourself a favor.. NEVER, EVER fall for something like this again!! K?

This is the list of includes I was able to figure out by the notecards I have in my inventory.
• An intro page - possibly created by them explaining the ways to make money are by building, designing, land, etc. with information about stipends. • There are 14 lessons of prim creation tutorials - made all or in part by Lumiere Noir (according to the ones I have in my inventory) 1. Prim creation and families 2. Prim Positioning 3. Prim Rotation 4. Prim Stretching 5. Prim Copying 6. Physical Objects 7. Selecting and Linking Prims 8. Prim Distortions 9. Hollowing 10. Twisting 11. Top Sizing 12. Top Shearing 13. Putting it all together 14. Control Z Building
• How to make plants • Particles – by Rusty Satire • Scripting 101 • Scripting • Welcome to basic scripting • Making clothes using in-game appearance mode • Paintshop Pro – by Judie Brody • Photoshop – by Judie Brody • Templates • The Gimp – by Judie Brody • Tutorials • Uploading – seems to be another part of Judys book • WebLinks • First Land • Land in Second Life • Make money with the land • So you want to deed a land to group • Traffic or Dwell • Make Money • Packaging instructions • Setup a Shop
The rest I am not sure who created them, as I don’t have them in my inventory.

Cherub, I believe that if it was harder to copy and paste contents directly from notecards, this type of copyright infringement would occur less often. Please see this thread for some suggestions on this topic.

There's your answer, though. That's how you make a lot of money off of Second Life. Rip things off and sell them on ebay or in world.

Thank you Cherub for posting what's in that package.
Is there anything relating to DJing or streaming media? I know myself and DJ Under would like to know.

"gc_enterprises" has a 98.6% positive rating. The people on Cherub's list need to make that go down real quickly.

On a related note: Why hasn't LL started selling SL related products and apparel, (Huge decals, plz) Some residents have taken up the task, one that immediately comes to mind is: http://www.cafepress.com/nocturnalthread/1154838CafePress lets anyone throw an image on some merchandise and sell it for a small cut. They'll do clothes, mugs, mousepads, bumper stickers, buttons, etc.
