I was thinking today, I see people come on here railing about the newbies, the alts, the horrible abuses that they're subjected to etc. I am by no means saying you brought it on yourself, or you deserve it but has it ever occured to you that some of the grief may be due to the way you respond to the first attack? I too have been shot in my own land, I too have been shot in the sandbox. I have been soliticed for money, offered friendship by people whom I have never met etc etc etc. In many cases except for one, I have been able to reason with the offender and stop the attack and even in rare cases even befriended the person. For example, I was building something in the sandbox two weeks ago. Someone started shooting me out of the blue. I immediately sat on something so as to not lose my place in the sandbox. Then I asked him if he could stop shooting me. He asked why? it's not a push weapon. I said I can see that but more than anything I was not planning on getting shot that day. He completely got me and said sorry and moved on. I thanked him for his understanding. now if I had started making snide comments, calling him names, tried to intimidate him I am sure this thing would have escalated and turned into some sort of evil rivalry. So I ask everyone here to calm it, treat unkindness with kindness. Not responding to adversity is the best weapon we've got against attacks. The whole point of an attack is that it bothers and/or destroys the target. If you act like it is not bothering you, or at the very least you try to reason with the person before getting all pissy-dancing-queen on them and raining them with abuse reports, maybe we stand a better change of growing and surviving our growth as a community. As I said, this message is in no way intended to disqualify the validity of any of the posts about the horrific attacks people have been subjected to in the past weeks. This is a message of peace, asking everyone to be the adult even if the person on the otherside is not one. *hugs* We will get through this phase, I am sure of it. Courage! Troy

be nice if you want...niceness has not been shown, in my opinion, to work with a greifer. Just today, because of these accounts, a friend of ours was sitting in her own place of business - one of these jerks hits on her, and when she politely ignored him, he prceeded to block her place of business with prims. Not long after this, another one (the newby skin is sometimes a give away - especially when it's BRAND newby clothes) - walks in an rudely comments on my wife's posterier. I pointed out that this was my wife and, unfortunately for him, she was having a REALLY bad day, so she informed him in the ways of proper etiquite with a woman. Leaving the store and turning around to shout obseneties at us was his response. I tend to think these were the same person, but who can know?
It's MY OPINION that removing the verification system was the worst thing that has happened in SL thus far - since then, I have had to deal with these greifers more than I have ever seen in my time in SL. If LL doesn't fix this problem, and find some way to slowly ban these abusing alts, it WILL be the end of SL as we know it...People will get fed up with it and leave. It's up to them...I know I'm increasingly getting more and more tired of dealing with these jerks. You would think that with the number of times SL has been attacked, taken down, whatever, they would WANT more control over knowing who is online with characters, not opening it up even more! It's a bad move - and we are all going to pay for it...one way or another.

Unfortunatly it will always be like that due to selfish beeing. There are many ways to enjoy yourself in SL however many people either dont understand that there are health zones, or they want to pick on busy residents.

If you are on your land, turn it unsafe and blast them with no push damage. The fact you made the land unsafe means its a combat zone and ARing combat does nothing.

Been there done that sadly... In most cases they just tell you to F off and continue shooting people... It's best to ban/AR/Eject and keep doing that every time they roll a new account and come back... Eventually your ban list fills up and you have to resort to using scripted ones.

This is the kind of thing that makes the SL experience so appealing to me. I remember one night ending up in an area that was being infected with the meeping muppets from Sesame Street (remember the ones that swallow their heads when someone comes in?), complete with sounds - 'moooo'. Call it what you want but it's totally bizarre moments like these that keep me checking in on SL. Fine line between bizarre and griefing, I suppose...

Unfortunately, this *also* get the people who actually have a legitimate reason why they're unverified. Personally, I *totally* blame LL for this problem. If they had given us betting anti-griefing tools before they started allowing unverified accounts...hell, if they'd used some forethought and tried to come up with other payment options for people in other parts of the world... But they didn't. From what I've seen they didn't actually even consider griefing a real issue before this, and I think that to a certain extent they *still* don't. If they did, then I think that allowing things like banning by group, and particularly allowing an avatar to shut off suceptability to push, would be at the top of their priority list. Also, if they were really serious about it, they'd actually start mass perma-banning people who shoot others without permission. Probably at least 95% of griefing is due to abuse of "push" and it's relatives, and the willingness of people to grief is due to the fact that LL really doesn't actually *do* anything to accounts that *do* grief. So...unverifieds are paying for it.

Personally, I'd have a lot more of a sense of humor about this sort of thing if it weren't for naked deformed losers who come around and try to hump your leg or something, and for the total losers who just run around shooting everyone. If it weren't for that sort of thing, I'd find what your friend was doing a lot funnier. And really, next time he should be asking for cheesecake and a diet Pepsi.

I feel so bad for something I did yesterday. See I broke my fingers in a car door the other day so right now I am doing al of my typing with my left hand hunt an peck which takes forever. It makes communicating very slow. So yesterday when two people teleported into the lobby of the club wearing giant orange penises and boxes on their heads, I just didnt think I could deal. Automatically I just assumed troublemakers and thinking I cant communicate fast enough instead I just clicked and hit eject/ban. So you can imagine how bad I felt when a minute later I get an IM from my good friend saying, "Did you just ban my friends? I sent them there to make you laugh." Too quick on the draw

Vio..too funny..things like that make me laugh uncontrollably. Had somebody from a group I belong to and that has posted here tp into the club I work at when flex -prims we introduced, with a flexi-dong, I about pissed on myself because the owner was standing at the spot the guys landed and she got her head whacked a few times with the dongs.
Back towards the subject. Today I was at a sim that has a very awesome build on it and while I was doing some investigation work, I tped to the Infohub on the sim and got caught in a IM. Apon returning to the world I noticed one of the people there stating that the guy that was shooting her earlier was back. Her friend proceeded to inform the guy that if he was there to grief again he was going to AR and orbit the guy! At that point I had to say something I was laughing at the "knight in shining armor" for being so zealous, but before I coudl the "supposed" griefer said "look man I get your point, now put it back in ya pants! My lil brother was on my computer earlier and I am going to beat him with a stick because he likes to get in game and pretend this is GTA3, I am sorry for the inconvience." At this point I was ammazed and a bit amuzed because the "Knight's" friends was laughin at the comment the guy made to him. It was refreshing to see somebody stand up for their friend but on the same level it was even more enjoyable seeing said person get put in his place for letting his TESTOSTERONE level cloud his judgement!

i recall my first days in the game in sandbox island. i was building and this people in back of a big truck was driving around setting every one on fire. well it was very funny. no one is harmed or pushed around and the flames goes out and every one goes back to work. no static.
but it seems the author of the thread is saying that if we are pushed and abused and other wise harassed we must play nice and pat the abuser on the head and smile and say nothing and MAYBE IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN !
this is not how things work.
