I was playing around with *edited*, downloading a bunch of textures in Taber, and came across this image. Does anyone know what that means? I'm curious. Thanks!

I believe it is against the TOS to make posts encouraging illegal acts such as copyright violation.

Seriously, though... is it wise to be posting a link on the SL forums to a program that allows you to rip any and all textures you come across in SL?

Possibly they were not breast fed as a child. I fail to see how this encourages copyright infringement. The images are still copyrighted, this doesn't change how 3rd Parties can use them. What are you talking about? _____________________

Are you coming on to me, Ms. Mechanique? :-* I fail to see how this encourages copyright infringement. The images are still copyrighted, this doesn't change how 3rd Parties can use them. What are you talking about? Because it bypasses the SL permissions system (I'm gathering), though you're right, it technicly doesnt violate copyright in any way. _____________________

Looks like some kind of unused error glyph or something.
I wouldn't worry about it. Because I'm sure it doesn't worry about you As for GLI, it's not the nature of the tool, it's what you do with it. Same argument for p2pware or cd burners. |

Nah, this is just another one of those negative posts where someone who couldn't actually give a crap about copyright can let everyone know of a cool tool to dig around in other people's private stuff but get away with it by making the post allude to a positive ongoing interest of the rest of us. This is just bait. Possibly they were not breast fed as a child. ![]() Actually if I'm groking Jarod's modus operandi, I believe he is attempting to draw attention to another security flaw in SL, albeit passive-agressively. Security Flaw I: How to build a Virus in SL (Posted in Signature) Security Flaw II: GLIntercept for Dummies I think his motivations are noble, I'm just a little unsure about the methods. _____________________

Posting in a soon to be legendary drama thread.
EDIT: Might as well point out more notable and legit usages of GLIntercept/GLTrace such as Ogle. _____________________

It's not just a flaw, but one that you can't do much about (save through watermarking and such), just as all the copy-protected music CDs in the world don't help against simply sticking a player and a microphone in a soundproofed room. _____________________

Is it too late for the requisite "This will not end well"?

Is it too late for the requisite "This will not end well"? It's never too late for that one. ![]() Yay for ulterior motives! Though honestly I'm not sure what more attention to this issue will actually accomplish. They know. I think we'd need something more along the lines of "Texture-Armageddon" for it to make an impact. _____________________
