The map update?
I mean, sounds a little trivial but yet again we've gone a couple of weeks with no map update at all.
I mean its not exactly a priority for me, but I bug reported this like a month ago and the Lindens were like "Oh yeah its bugged"....well okay, how long is it actually acceptable to let known bugs run?
I mean you know its there, you obviously know how to circumvent it because you updated the map the last time we rattled our cages about it...but yet...its still not fixed.
Is it just me or is the Linden cycle of development and maintenance becoming more and more like Sony Online Entertainments? Lots and lots of shiny fluff, and a total lack of focus on the actual concerns of the player base and the issues at hand.
I mean I don't mean to rip on the Lindens here, but you'd think that if you're patching once a week...one of the code monkeys would have figured out what the problem is with the weekly map update....or maybe came up with a way to identify attackers using non-physical push weaponry....or...something useful and pertinent to todays burning issues (much of which are Linden created in the first place).
Instead we get this half patch here:
* The PvP History option has been replaced by "Bumps, Hits, & Pushes" under the Help menu Awesome I guess...this will do tons of good I guess if someones like...completely new to the game and using some kind of collision based weapon that actually gives us something to report. Which the serious griefers do not....I know this for certain because last night most of the people in my business were orbited to 10k by someone on the parcel and nobody...not me wearing a "PvP reporting" shield, not any of my friends, not any of my customers and not even the LINDENS could tell you who was doing it.
* "Find" changed to "Search", default for new users is to search "All" content types Oh this is poignant. I guess in the area of dummy proofing the search function. * Parcel "access denied" lines now fade significantly faster with distance Sweet...now I'll fly right into the 200m Access Denied lines before I see them, but at least once I sort out getting around them they'll fade away fast. * Parcel owners can ban users based on account settings I cannot even begin to expound upon how half thought out this measure is. The Lindens created a situation which has placed most of the paying public of SL at the mercy of the entire INTERNET full of hackers and griefers....hackers and griefers that don't care if they're banned because they have hundreds of accounts and multiple proxies and swapping a network card ISN'T all that hard, so hardware MAC address bans aren't as good as you think guys.....and their answer to this is to identify whos paying and whos not paying...and then they expect us to police this situation ourselves by just blanket banning ANYONE from our properties that isn't paying money or hasn't been verified? This isn't an answer...at all. Not everyone thats joining unverified is doing so because they're griefers.....most of them are joining unverified because the Lindens have allowed them to do so. This is not an acceptable answer to the plague of increased grief in SL. Period.
Bug fixes: * Banned users cannot be heard from your parcel But they can stand right on the edge of the ban line it and use sensor based targetting systems to orbit you and whoever else is on the parcel. Thanks for totally ignoring Proposal #1585. * The "Open" option appears when right-clicking a child prim of an object with contents Nice I guess, more dummy proofing the SL GUI I guess * The Linden Locations list now shows Mature areas Nice I guess, I doubt I'll ever be on this list, but I guess its nice to know someones taking an hour or two out of there day in San Fransisco to point newbies at areas of interest...should save me some time...I guess. * Fixed a bug that prevented some offline IMs from appearing I guess this is nice, I mean lord knows I hate to miss any of my ninety bajillion IMs. * Fixed a bug with the INSERT key and text fields This one I'll actually clap for because its been driving me insane for awhile now. * AGP enabled for additional graphics cards Yay? * Small flexi objects are now rendered correctly Another welcome fix, hopefuly its actually a fix. Course doesn't matter I still have some flexi items that worked before and were broken by the 1.10.3 release and for some reason they've never rendered correctly afterwards. All bug fixes aside. * Stars are back! Not bad, only a two week turn around on this.
And I guess the big stuff is waiting for the 1.12.0 release, with all the group tool changes and what not and none of it is really going to address the ongoing problems with griefers and hackers in SL....and I somehow think we'll still be wondering when the map is going to update by then too.
Like I said, the map update isn't a big priority for me...its just evidence, in my eyes, that somethings going severely wrong in the development offices at Linden Labs.
But I suppose when your problems are self created, you can choose to ignore them for as long as you like.
And why bother fixing the grief problems? It just forces more and more high tier accounts to pay even MORE money to buy an island to get away from it.
Sorry, I don't mean to be so snarky...but really. Come on LL, you guys really impressed me my first six months here...but of late, its like you all were bought out by SOE and didn't tell us.

Wow you sound like a mega jerk.
The map update is less important than most of the stuff listed as being fixed / new.

The map update is less important than most of the stuff listed as being fixed / new. I think if you read the entire post you'll realize that I was just posing that as an example of a long running issue thats never been fixed and I stated that it wasn't even a priority for me...that it was just something I was bringing up. My main issue is the continued lack of relevant response to the problem the Lindens have created by adding no verification registration to the game. Thank you for comprehending at least the title and first two lines of the post then writing the rest of it off without reading it though.

I'd be happier if they fixed the baker's dozen building bugs that have been accumulating in SL for, oh,
OVER THREE YEARS
Ahem.
That'd be great.
If they want us to build professionally in this platformverseagamething, they should give us profesionally precise tools.

I'd like to see the map fixed too. The thing that bugs me about it is that although it isn't being updated, it still takes ages to draw But I'm totally living for the red text being not so obnoxious

From: Starax Statosky You sound fine to me!! To me as well. Pretty much everthing the OP said above is dead on. LL seems to have been making some *terrible* decisions lately. Since this change in the verification list, I've had any number of griefing incidents on my own land, when prior during the prior *year* I'd had maybe *three*. As for the "push" weapons issue, I know that someone I knew brought up the issue at a general SL meeting back in May or June of *last* year, only to have their concerns brushed off, so it's not like LL was unaware of the issue, they just chose to discount the complaints from users until it reached the near-crisis levels that it's hit currently. And really, how can you seriously refer to SL as a "platform", when it's still possible for some little munchkin with a push gun can sneak up while people are trying to work or shop or conduct business and shoot them three sims away. You can't do serious business in the middle of a PvP shooter, and so long as it's possible to shoot someone against their will in SL, not very many people are going to try to.

I'm going to focus on two things that I want from LL:
1) Fix building tool/prim bugs. I am driven insane when trying to build anything more complex than just rezzing the base shapes.
2) Let us be able to turn off/on push on our avatars. Screw the land tools, give this to the individual users! "Casual" griefing would drop, since it's usually more effort than most want to put into the game to continue to find more ways to do it. Well, hopefully, that is.

Yeah that sounds good on paper guys.

You know what irks me about the map? How long it takes to rez even on a good system. Forget seeing anything valuable on a more, shall we say, crappy system.
They should figure out a way not to have repeating landmarks, without us having to search through our items for the hidden ones. I mean, isn't that just some common sense?
Gah!

At this point I would like to see if the game ever works again, yet alone actually fix anything. You would think at some point they would say, OMG, it doesn't work, we better go back to the way it was... At least it was working... You would think this stuff would be tested before patching it in, they are pulling an SOE on us.

I mean Linden Labs used to be so good about ensuring what they released worked. But its just been an extended schedule of bugged releases with the exception of 1.10.0 (and even that had bugs, I just wasn't personally affected by them and i thought that patch was awesome) and they never roll back. When 1.10.3 came out my business was more or less put on standby by the LOD bug. Anyone in prim based business was...but no, lets not roll it back, we'll just leave it on for a week til we have time to make another release. Its very much like SOE development has been. As per the SOE development creedo below. Never listen to the customer.
Never address actual problems or issues.
And never, EVER, admit you made a mistake.

Last night I noticed that when I click on my linked house, and click "textures," it no longer shows all the textures. I could only show one prim face at a time, thus not being able to see how they were lining up on the roof from one section to the next. I hope they will fix this. coco

When I got here LL was like a breath of fresh air. I brought up a problem in live help and boom...a Linden showed up immediately. I was rocked.
