When you create a new account a confirmation message is displayed, something to the effect of "Your account has been created. Welcome to Second Life."
I propose modifying this to "Your account has been created. Welcome to Second Life. Who would you to ban from your land? (Bans will take effect once land is purchased.)"

I find banning very offensive and upsetting, almost as offensive and upsetting as parody.

Or how about this:
“Your account has been created. Welcome to Second Life. Currently you are banned from any land that is not public. Good luck trying to learn or do anything. Thank you for your patience.”

Perhaps a Profile Search could be incorporated into the ban capability in the form of Ban by Profile Keyword. ---- Hmm, since SL wants to become the 3D Web of the future perhaps this could be hastened by extending the ban capability from Second Life land to regular websites. There could menu options like "Block access to google.com" or "Block access to http://sportsillustrated.com/swimwear_issue.html", stuff like that. There could be Regular Ban powers that would be free, which would only include the right to block people from stuff that you have a right to control, while the ability to ban people from stuff you don't have any right to ban them from would take an extra-monthly-charge Premium Ban account.
