So... I've been away awhile... Most of you probably haven't noticed and some may not even care... but that is besides the point lol!
Have you became bored with SL? As a designer/content creator in SL, do you feel that when your creative mind is not at work there is nothing to do in SL?
I very rarely leave Le Cadre, so maybe I am missing something... What do you do when you aren't creating? Now I know there is the normal games, tringo, slingo etc... and the dance clubs, but that gets old rl fast...
Tell me what you do... what keeps you logged into SL?

There are other things to do besides make things o.O? hehe, kidding. But I don't have an answer for you. I go weeks at a time without logging on, but then I've been logged on every night for the last couple of nights. I'd say leave Le Cadre now and then but I have no recomendations on where you should go. At the point your at sometimes it helps to shove everything off your desk (figuratively) and start over from scratch on a new project. heh, but once again I have no idea what that would be and sometimes that just gets you a partially but never finished project. I know you love Le Cadre but if SL is all work, maybe scalling back would help? Very long shot suggestion as it hurts to let go of something you've put that much work into though. The work you put into it may not even be related to your current state of SL apathy. Anyway, I helped so much didn't I . Good Luck.

My friends. Thats why I log in. Though I do have WoW when I am in a creative funk. My advice, create an alt. Look at SL again as a newbie.

when i'm really bored, nobody on i wanna talk to and i can't think of anything i should be working on, i teleport to a random location on the map and start flying. usually within 10 minutes i run into something that grabs my attention and begs me to explore, and i've taken alot of build inspiration from seeing new things this way :3

Both good ideas. Combining them would be even better. I've done the alt thing a few times. My alts always eventually become known, but they've served their purpose by that point.

Great ideas but I have tried them all before , and sadly they didn't keep wanting to log in or stay logged in for a long period of time... Any other ideas? I am hoping there is something out there that I am missing... I find that I am not as soiciable as most people... or maybe I am, but I just hate typing, so I usually just pick up the phone and call all my SL friends... so I don't have to log into SL to see how they are doing or to chat with em... I have also tried to volunteer as a greeter or mentor but accordingly to the Lindens I do not have a clean record... whatever that means... I have never been suspended or in trouble with the Lindens... *shrugs*

Bored and nothing to do
03-08-2006 17:09
I log in to see my friends who are my sl family, to meet new people and to help new people. Nothing feels better than helping a new person who knows nothing and looks like they just stepped off the sl assembly line. I also watch movies and enjoy making things. May not seem like much but the rewards are nice.

It's funny that you resurfaced today, Sensual. I just looked at your profile last night in fact to see if you were still around. I have taken a pretty long break from SL in general - it has lasted almost a year on and off. I found that working on Snapzilla was actually more fun and less frustrating than dealing with a lot of stuff in SL, and I just became burnt out I suppose.
Lately I am finding myself coming back into SL more and more. I have been having all kinds of fun with Starax's magic wand (so much so that I am probably annoying the hell out of people with it), and seeing the amazing things Starax has done has reinspired me. I am still frustrated with the fact that SL seems stuck in neutral, but I am hopeful that the next few months will bring new stuff and it will continue to inspire me.
I have also found that just going out and hanging out and enjoying SL, instead of worrying about creating stuff all the time has been a lot of fun. I've gone to clubs, visited all kinds of sims, and just had a good time. I used to spend most of my time in SL working, and when you do that, you miss out on so much. There is a lot more to SL than just making money, in spite of how it is promoted. I lost sight of that a bit and I'm glad I can enjoy myself again now.
One nice thing about SL is it's not a goal oriented thing like World of Warcraft. You can leave SL and come back any time - I hope it is a place I always want to return to. This is in major contrast to There and TSO - when I left both of those places, I never looked back. Yet three years later, I am still in SL and still passionate about it, even if I am feeling a bit cynical about it these days.
Glad you are still around, Sensual.

Well, I don't actually log on very much, and when I do it's mostly to work... and I don't stay logged on for very long. SL is a bit of a heavyweight, and I have a crap computer. On top of that my bandwidth is metered... So I code using SciTe-Ez... I log in to test stuff and demo it to Jimmy, or the client. I have most of my SL friends' IM contacts so we keep in touch through MSN / AIM / ICQ... I'd say it's normal and expected that SL users have a life outside it. You don't need to be logged on 24/7.

Cant say its the same old same old in SL since the fun seems to be gone from it for many, and there seems to be no reason to log on unless for sales. I have been extremely busy with my real life which has included a move to your neck of the woods. We really should plan that get together!

I actually started a similar thread about retiring avatars which got moved into notices and well wishes. I created an alt and put Jennyfur into a semi-retirement state. I've been having a lot more fun being someone else lately than I have had in months.

Welcome back, Sensual. I've been gone for most of the last year, too. Just started up again in January and had my rl husband join, too. I log in for awhile, get bored and log out to play The Sims 2 by myself. Then, when I need some socialization, I log back in. Hope to see you again soon

Hi Sensual. Well it's easy, drop by my SL Chess Club in Timandra, play a quick game of chess or enjoy the free Sudoku boards . Past that shameless plug, what other games would interst you ? Besides clubbing, it wouldn't be too hard to implement many card games like bridge or tarot (a french game), that are social in nature. We already have poker, we could have many others. Welcome back !

My story is pretty much the same as Cristiano's. I haven't been around all that much this past year compared to the one before. I started to hit severe burnout so I just went and did other stuff... read some great scifi books, played some other games, went out drinking, enjoyed the real world for a change. I never really left SL but just came on to take care of things I needed to do and not much else. Lately I've been logging in a lot more and getting busy creating again. I do get bored when I'm not working on projects but that's more a product of my personality and not a fault with SL.

SL just isn't the same as it was 2 years ago thats for sure. ALOT has changed and with it the fun friendly know everybody inviroment has vanished. I too have had the boredom "what to do" funk ALOT!!! I guess when I get bored I mainly go spend money now. I think alot might have to do with how sl has changed so much. I mean you use to be able to log on and know all the designers, know everybody, it use to be alot more personal. Now its far from that if you ask me. Anyway I'm getting off track. There are some very interesting hardcore roleplaying communities you might want to look into that might spice things up. I dunno.
