Hello everyone,

I just started SL recently ( like yesterday) and have spent some time going around the world and buying stuff, playing poker, going to the clubs, and so on. I spend a lot of my free time writing science fiction and fantasy short stories and was looking for some feed back on an idea I had. I was thinking of creating a magazine within SL that featured writers in the sci-fi/fantasy genres within SL. I looked around the forums and did not see anything about this being done before and was looking for some feedback from people that have been here for awhile on the idea. Thank you in advance for any feedback.

It sounds like a cool idea to me! You might want to get in touch with Chosen Few, who founded the Sci-Fi Geeks groups in SL which has grown fairly large. They're headquartered in Indigo at (64,192). Good luck!

If you already enjoy the writing, I say go ahead. It will probably be slow going at the onset, but don't despair.

It could be fun either way. Have a First Issue bash. Have some lively story discussions. Have a build contest highlighting a recent story. Just have some fun and you will draw people in.

How were you thinking of doing the mag? Links to a website? Something like the THiNC Printing Press? Giant story boards? Are you looking for illustrators?

thank you all for the input I have recieved so far. I really want to do something like this, I am not sure on a distribution method right now. I know I want to link it to an e-zine but I don't know if I want that to be the only means of distribution, this THiNC Printing Press thing intrigues me and to be honest ( or stupid ) I am not sure what/who that is. I look forward to more feedback and will post an update when I get things rolling in the employment forums with guidelines and all the details of what I want/need to make this work.

It works in conjunction with a THiNC Book to publish them so you can distribute them to your liking. The THiNC Book is an animated scripted book in SL. It will display textures that you upload as pages on the book. With the THiNC Printing Press you can then make a publication that you have copy & transfer right to distribute. You can check it out at my store THiNC SL in Ontario 7,77 or check them out online at SLExchange or SLBoutique.
