This probably belongs in Technical Issues, but it doesnt seem that anyone else is having this problem.

I built a new computer, wanted to see how it would run SL

Install SL, run it, and it becomes unresponsive at Detecting Hardware.

Update drivers, same thing happens.

Could it be that my new hardware is just too awesome to be detected by a program created by mere mortals? No one knows, but what we do know, is that this problem sucks hard.

In your shorcut to start SL, try adding -noprobe to the end of the command line - that will skip the hardware check. See if you can get past that step. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your chipset - that tends to be what has always caused me problems in the past with new machines and SL.

Hmmm... what exactly is your hardware config? I've heard of a few recent cases of this, there might be a common factor.

My hardware is

Pentium P4 2.8 ghz 64bit(D)
Nvidia XFX 6800GT
1 gig of DDR2 PC5200 (kingsont ValuRAM)

So, last night I left SL sitting at the Hardware Detecion phase for an hour, and then the login screen popped up with the message telling me that I cant turn on AGP accelleration, unless i'm using PCI-E, and in that case to ignore the message.

I think that this is an issue LL needs to address in their next update, so it wont do this to others that are running PCI-E cards.

If you are running a PCI-E card, you need to turn off AGP acceleration.

If you are able to get SL to run, what does it say in the Help About SecondLife for CPU and OpenGl Vendor and OpenGL Renderer?

Does it correctly identify your equipment?
