What about Second Life Citizenship?

Cadroe's previous post gave me an idea - what about something like Second Life Citizenship?

People who have Unverified accounts could have an opportunity to become SL Citizens after a period of time (say six months) if they have not griefed anyone.

Verified accounts can become SL Citizens by giving their information.

The only thing that you would see in the profile is SL Citizen Y or N.

People can lose their SL Citizenship (even old timers for griefing)

It can be re-earned over time and perhaps good deeds (mentor, etc.) or perhaps even revoked permanently by the Lindens as punishment for severe misdeeds.

Just curious what people think about this idea?

It's like everything else. It can be abused. I can create 5 free alts every week and start using them for griefing 6 months after their creation and they will all be citizens. Why? don't ask me. But I'm sure some people might enjoy running their scams.

Then again, coupled with the machine identification, that griefer would probably not last long.

I don't know though. I don't see what all the drama about the account statuses is. 2 of them tell you what you already know about pre 6/6/06 accounts and the other will be a way to protect business owners amongst others, but does not mean you are a bad person.

After all, if your rez date is more than 6 months ago and you are still out and about, you must be a relatively decent person, right? Verified or not. What's the citizen flag going to tell you other than that?

Whilst there is perhaps still a 'two tier' system within that, I don't see it as a particular problem.

Reality has similar issues - for example, if I move to the US legally, go through all the paperwork and everything involved (and pay handsomely for the 'privilege'), I'd still be treated as 'second class' and a 'legal alien' I think is the term (nanu nanu).

There will always be differentiation in some form or another wherever you look. What I think would be useful would be some way to earn 'skill medals' as you progress along. Many other games have ways of developing your character and possibly earning new things to do, so it would be something that would help bring SL up to standard.

This has to be one of the better suggestions i have seen so far, this system would work quite well i think.
this puts everyone in the same pool well 2 pools, griefer or not.
and is by far less biast in my opinion than the new system will ever be.

might want to attach a poll to this one for sure :)

For extra fun, there should be a test to gain your citizenship.
  1. What year was Second Life founded
  2. Name the original sims
  3. Name the president, vice president and the cabinet members of LL
  4. Fill in the blank: Weapons testing is allowed in the following LL owned areas: _________________________

I'm sure my clients would love the six-month wait!

We should also require embarassing initiation rituals. *runs off to build a paddle*

I like this idea in that if someone has spent time as live helper or a mentor or a greeter I think that this should be reflected as a benefit in their citizenship in some way.

Positive ratings for people who have held benefits & given things in other areas, all things moving in that direction. Like people who rebuilt New Orleans and had benefits. Just as an example.

There are so many good things that people do in SL, so many good solid business people, and it just seems that the people who get the most recognition are the griefers. The little buggers always seem to steal the show by setting the curtains on fire. :(
