1. 1-click entry guest accounts.
- No inventory access
- Pop-up menu appears to choose between a dozen or so default avatars (which i've heard LL is working on)
- no L$
- Can not enter M areas

2. Linden Lab reinstates age verification as an optional step to sign up

3. M areas require age verification

4. Premium accounts must be age verified.

5. On the profile, it indicates whether or not someone is age verified.

6. Land options to allow access to only verified avatars

Everyone wins:
- Linden Lab gets fast entry to SL
- Linden Lab gets more users
- Age verification is kept in place
- Protection is restored to people who want to keep teenies out.

I respectfully disagree.

-Freebies are one method of getting new residents excited about our world, and investigate further. No inventory access would kill that.

-Some 'freebies' (think YadNi) are $1. No L$ would kill those as well.

-Not all M areas contain Sexual/Violent content. (The Shelter is a Mature sim, but our content is not).

2. Linden Lab reinstates age verification as an optional step to sign up

-As an optional step, it couldn't hurt. But I don't think all of our problems are centered only on Age. Genuine 18+ folks can be griefers too. IMHO its the anonymity that's the real core of the problem.

3. M areas require age verification

Disagree for the same reasons above. Not all Mature areas contain mature content. And the COPA argument is a shaky one, because SL is not a Web service. But I don't claim to be a legal expert on the subject, either :D

4. Premium accounts must be age verified.

Agreed... but has that changed? Unless you're saying that CC/Paypal verification is insufficient. I think if all of us had to fax our drivers licenses to go premium, that might create a huge barrier to upgrading... and bad for LL.

5. On the profile, it indicates whether or not someone is age verified.

Not a bad idea... although I'd be more concerned about "Identity Verified" than age verified.

6. Land options to allow access to only verified avatars

While I probably wouldn't use that specific land option myself, I think that's a fantastic idea to have the option. More tools, please :)

First off, please read my post here

If this is the compromise that LL is going to choose, then limit "non verified" accounts to the preview grid.

Great!

No inventory access

Um, no because you want to let them buy and accumulate some stuff. That's part of the 'hook' that keeps people coming back. But mebbe some sort of inventory restriction. Such as no more than 1,000 items and no ability to transfer items. Not sure how that would be implemented.

Fine... but what if they want to buy a furry / mech / whatever av?

From: someone
no L$

Bad idea..... I'd suggest a limit on L$. Such as a maximum of 5000L$ per month, no ability to cash out or transfer L$. OK, some people might game such a scenario but I do feel that it's important for 'Visitor' accounts to be able to buy goods in-world so that they have a taste of what's available if and when they decide to unlock their account.

Can not enter M areas

No, for exactly the same reasons Travis gave.

From: someone

I'd prefer Identity (which would include age) Verification. And make it a required step for both a Basic and Premium account.

From: someone
M areas require age verification

Hmmm..... but if the Teen Grid is gonna implode as a result of migration, then it would be a neccessary move on LL's part to cover their asses.

From: someone

Yes, or Identity Verified which could be a bit more thorough.

From: someone
On the profile, it indicates whether or not someone is age verified.

Yes, make that age & ID Verified. Though this might not be 100% essential.

From: someone
Land options to allow access to only verified avatars

Yes, a very useful option. And if this can be implemented 'behind-the-scenes' then it can be anonymous and automatic so that there would be no need for a player's age status to be displayed in their profile.

I would also add limited object and script creation facilities so that they can experiment a bit and get a feel for the creative possibilities. As I've suggested before, the sandbox option, if that's possible to implement.

I really like this idea (for verified basic/premium accounts vs non-verified guest accounts, not basic vs premium). I think it will encourage people to verify their age and actual personal information. Once they verify their age, they can have a basic/free account to look around further. If they're really here to enjoy SL and not to be a griefer, it shouldn't be a big deal to have to verify yourself.

I'd think that a guest user would have to register to buy money anyway. If they were to get startup money, then someone could just make thousands of accounts to get lots of L$.

1. 1-click entry guest accounts.

I'd suggest a new login button in the client, "Login as unregistered user", that would bring up a login screen to select firstname and lastname to login without password, and that would not actually create a new account. Maybe that's what you meant too?
