A quick question from a newbie...

I've got a British verified PayPal account which isn't working when I try to upgrade. It comes out with some message about there being a "problem with credit card details", which is odd since I've not entered a credit card number (I don't have one). I was hoping to upgrade to premium and buy some land and L$, if I can't then there's not a lot of point in my staying on here.

The PayPal account is linked to a bank account and works perfectly when paying for other services, including ones based in the US.

I'd give you an answer, but unfortunately, I don't know it. My only suggestion would be to call the Support line on Monday. :(

When you open a paypal account, transfer some money into the account. Then wait 5 days or so. Once you have a balance you can go to LL and enter your payment info and buy some L$ or get your account upgraded, but not before then. If you need more help IM me. :)

Could it be because I don't have any US monopoly money in my account, only Great British Pounds Sterling?

Could it be a general glitch? Could be, could be...

Since you said that you don't have a credit card Davina, I assume your PayPal account is verified by a Switch or Solo card. According to another British user, PayPal cannot transfer funds to other countries with a Switch or Solo card.

So, as Karylla said, you have to transfer money from your bank account into your PayPal account to be able to pay to Linden. This takes time, and is a bit annoying, but it works.

Unfortunately, no impulse land buying can take place unless you put a lot into your PayPal account beforehand.

actually thats not the reason, switch and solo work fine abroad its linden labs method of payment that is the problem

PayPal Balance
Primary Bank Account Natwest XXXXXXXXXX (Not valid for billing in your country)
Primary Credit Card Switch/Maestro Card XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

if i could use paypal it would be better for me anyway lol, but it does state on their billing page "Linden Lab accepts payments through PayPal that are funded from a bank account, Switch or Solo card, or a PayPal balance." which is quite confusing.

That's exactly what it says to me (except it's First Direct and not Natwest). No joy here. I've bought L$ with SL Exchange immediately, without a hitch - so it's LL's issue.

as peter lameth stated, this is because paypal UK can not set up a bank transfer automaticly in this case a direct debit with your bank account for payment to linden labs, the ironey of this is though that to transfer funds from your bank to paypal via a bank is done on one time direct debits rofl.
acording to paypal they are trying to rectify this so that we can pay for services like second life in this way.
why Linden Labs opted for this method is beyond me but there you go.
alternativly the other method that does work and you do not require paypal at all is if you have a bank account with a visa electron card this card will be accepted by the Linden payment system :)
or put money into your paypal account and see if that works once the funds have been transfered.

even though you have the money in your paypal account you cant use it,
the way paypal works is it has to have a valid cc added to it or you cant
pay for certain things, when i phoned them up with the same problem
they said something liek paypal paid for it first and then if you didnt have enough
in your accounnt to cover it it was taken from the cc.

something like the above anyway he he

i signed up recently and have what appears to be the same problem.

just to make sure i have this correct; i credit my paypal amount with the appropriate amount, wait however many days (sigh) for it to appear, then go back to my account and upgrade to premium?
