Boycotting billboards.

Are you sick of em?

Another thread got me thinking about what residents might be willing to do in order to clean up the mainland and get rid of all the ugly particle streamers, the spinning boxes that dont use omega target and all the other things that suck

Sick of 'em, but will never happen.

LL has already stated they won't do anything such as "zoning". So basically the whole build of the world can look like crap (and does in a lot of places) and no one cares *shrugs*

Then again, what looks like crap to me, might be attractive to others and viceversa.

The good thing is, none of the more populuar buisnesses use billbaords from what I've seen. That ought to tell you something. If you see a billboard, chances are it's a sh*t product/service.

I just wish there was a rule that if you were advertising you only have the right to do it over a business... if they have to pay for 200 prims and a 512 plot, fine, they're less likely to abuse it if that plot costs them 10 dollars a month, especially since tackyness would drive business away.

As it stands now, I can't fly over to rixcs jewelry... I wont name names, but someone put up a horrible device that lags the hell out of you and put a 30,000 linden price on their plot... I suspect extortion. It's probably 1mx1m squared.

A device that lags that much is agsint the CC. Abuse Report it. With pics and full information if you can. LL does step in and take care of things like that (scanners are a big one) but it takes ARs and time. Call your friends and ahve them AR it as well. Just make sure it is something that needs ARed. False ARs are soemthing LL and the community does not need more of *chuckles*

I solved that problem once by surrounding it with an Invisa prim 10x10 where I could see it from my land. Poof you cant see it from my yard!!!

The only thing that annoys me more than seeing someone's nicely built home or business surrounded by signs on 16M plots, is seeing the same 16M plots for set sale at extortionist prices.

They can argue that they have the right to do whatever they wish with their land. That is fine. I have the right to boycott their business and through "word of mouth" explain why I do so to everyone I know.

I've never knowingly bought anything from anyone using such things to advertise.

If we're keeping a "griefer" list, why not an offsite list of people using billboards+landmarks of where they're at.

We can boycott them until the contact us and show that they've removed their billboards.

I think they're fine. I'm fine with SLers advertizing....

If you see advertising that offends you why not send an IM to the advertser and tell him so, and that you will not do business with them because of it.
