Rating, because no one ever rates me. :(

It's not that I'm not nice, it's probably because I always forget to rate anyone else, heh.

However, I am suddenly flush with cash thanks to a land deal, free ratings for everyone! :)

Someone has to make a tipjar shaped like a cow now. And make it fall over when it is tipped.

You can't buy stuff with ratings! ;) Which reminds me, I should play a few shows - I have to pay for my shoutcast stream.

LL needs to give us a new rating system. It's been over a year since they crippled rating the system and still we have nothing.

There were plenty of ideas circulated for a reputation system. Whatever happened to that?

Tipping - because they get something tangible for your L$25 rather than it just disappearing into god-knows-where. I prefer to be tipped, too.

Why not both?
07-16-2006 07:08
When we positively rate someone it costs money, why not just direct the
money and the complimentary judgement all to the person?

I would feel better about that than knowing my money is just purchasing
a rating or going into a money sink. ;)

Hear, hear. Or even a portion of the rating money going to the person being rated as a reward for earning that rating.

Both really... I like to rate people for their builds, it's a nice acknowledgement I feel... but if it's a musician or the like, then a tip, possibly with a rating as well, and if it's someone who's done something for all to enjoy, then a donation.

I find this to be an intriguing way of putting things.

There are times when I provide customer service above and beyond what is expected by the customer and get 'tips'. I appreciate those tips but would not mind if they were smaller and they rated my building skill as well.

In all other instances, I'd prefer to be rated than tipped because, well, gee, what are you tipping me for? Looking good? being friendly? um... I don't need to be tipped for being me :)

You didn't have a 'both' option, at least not the way I read it, might have misread it tho :)

Char

Oh, as for new ratings system... Unless anyone can come up with a way that any ratings system can't be abused, positively or, most especially, negatively, there is no point in revamping the existing system. If I thought that all of us could be responsible adults about never ever rating someone negatively unless it was totally deserved it would be one thing, but we all know that isn't going to happen. I figure anyone taking the time and money to actually rate me positively under the current system has genuinely felt I deserved to be rated. Hmmm. Maybe if it cost four times as much or more to rate someone negatively... dunno.

Gimme the L$ anyday. I'll thank you, plus, what do the ratings do anyway?

I do tip, but I prefer rating people over tipping.

If I use a good item I like rating the creator for excellent design work.

Also, money comes and money goes, but ratings are forever... :D

Hey, either way, it's someone extending themselves to pay you a compliment and to encourage you to keep doing things they way you are doing them. Each is somewhat transitory in their own way, but what the hell, if people are going to get all warm an' fuzzy on ye, I'm not about to say it matters which form it takes.

I generally do both when necessary. I use rating for most situations, but if I commission something to be custom-made, and the person doesn't entirely fumble the project, I usually over-pay by a significant margin. I also tip in instances of extremely impressive customer service.
