Second Life on Dutch television

Tonight there was a half an hour long documentary about Second Life on the Dutch television. I was very disappointed. I have told many friends about my experiences in SL and after viewing the documentary they have a strange idea of it. It was all about having cybersex and interfering first life and second life. My friends now must all think I am a lonesome nerd. I am, but I have always kept it secret... lol. Did somebody else saw it?

I was contacted by the Theunissen guy for interview (tho im not dutch, im belgian). I said No thanks, because i knew it would be a freakshow. Reality tv has to go for extremes to get some public. I didnt even watch it

I too was disappointed by this documentary, they focused to much on the sex/relationship part of sl. I wished they showed more about anshe chung for instance.

I called some friends, colleagues and my parents to tell them there was an item on Sl on television.
Later my dad called me: "so THAT'S why you like that game..." and i've been explaining my colleagues all that about scripting and building because they were thinking I was playing some 3D sex game.
On the other hand: PrincessPerfect, Frout and I had fun yesterday gathering new Dutch noobs in the WA Too bad all dutch residents born on march 27 and 28 are known as pervs from now on
I think the was way over 60% crap. It should have been called something like "boy meeting his oversea chat box friend"or something.

I've heard all about Dutch Television. Maybe they're coming to film cheap porn. Watch out for guys in macs, wearing clogs, and a large camera on their shoulder. Think Video Linden, but with heavy breathing.

when i (aurora maracas) agreed to the filming...it was originally about taro dana coming to meet me...they turned it into a sex parade NOT me...i tried to steer them to the fun aspects but i had a hard time...plus i couldnt always understand what they were sayin...as it was mostly dutch they were speaking

The documentary was way more up close and personal then i would have ever allowed. Besides from the talks i had with them, i thought it would be more geared towards the business and money side of sl. Strange how it ended up.

Sex gets more mindless attention than 'economy'.

I was worried where they might take this once they had packed up and gone home

I was there for the filming… they shot over an hour of footage with each of the girls alone… talking about SL and their experiences… how it fits into their lives, among other things … but of course, that seemed to get left completely on the cutting room floor.

I can only assume they had planned the angle they wanted to show from the start. (I wish I knew what they were saying in Dutch throughout the whole show.) But it looks like they played the “troubled relationship… on-line gaming is the problem and this is our future!” angle.

Originally I was supposed to be part of this because I am a part of Madiera/Aurora’s life and was letting Patrick share in it with us in world. Like I said… I have no idea how they played it out in Dutch… but he did not and still does not have a relationship outside the game with her. As far as we were aware beforehand, any problems he might have been having with his girlfriend to the extent it appears in the show… kinda got neglected.

This was supposed to be just a fun meet and greet with a friend from on-line that happened at the last minute sorta thing... a novelty really because he was from so far away, and we never expected to meet. The whole “I’m gonna be on Dutch TV and I think they want to show me coming over and us meeting in real life” came about in the span of about a week and a half.

I started to fear where they might take it when they were filming (that goodbye scene) in the hotel room. I was sitting there watching quietly like they asked, and some of the questions they were asking seemed odd. I wish they had shown the girls talking about how much fun they have in SL… where is the footage of Madie in the city alone that they took… talking about her life and SL?? Where’s the footage of Noula that they made her trudge through the snow to get?? All these “great shots” that they “had to have” I didn’t see any of them… oh wait… except when we were all going back on the train and they made her sit alone… I saw that shot. Completely unreal of course… considering she was only taking the train to pick me up in town from the bus depot… and only then because it was easier then parking downtown… she never goes on the train… she loves driving too much.

I love how they showed everyone as a loner… when we were all together hanging out the whole weekend. But I guess it didn’t fit the angle they intended… oh well… creative license I suppose.

You know what…. That poor girl was on call all weekend (3rd shift 12am-8am) … she was in the peak of a cold and felt like crap, but still managed to pull herself together to show them around and help them with their filming. You should have seen her… she was beat, I felt so bad for her (you’ll notice her sniffling in the hotel room). Yet she was a trooper and played host to them none the less.

It angers me that they played it the way they did… those girls didn’t need that crap. You both rock… and Rory, you know you rock my world angel… 143 baby girl!

Hey, I watched the video, Hell, they could have done ALOT better, then Make it look like some Fugged up "SOAP OPERA."
Honestly, I wasn't there through the, whole weekend, I sort of got in half way. But even then, we had almost ZERO sleep, those whole two nights. Not to mention, we did our damn best to please, the CAMERA CREW. With them wanting to change things, to them asking us to do our damn hair the same way we had it the day before. Heck!!! I am very not PLEASED, with the Video, I saw, they had asked me ALOT more about SL, and I did my best, to catch every subject in my hours time. But all i saw, was some stupid conversation, with them, about skins and worth. Damn. It's kind of sad, how they did up this whole thing. WHERE are the parts of me and AURORA, wrestling on the floor, I even have pictures. They made the whole video, sound like the life. of PATRICK and his FUGGED up relationship with his girlfriend. The whole weekend of him talking smack, then at the end of the video, they only captured, the part of him saying how he didnt rub his girlfriends tummy.
HONESTLY!!! IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE AS MUCH AS PATRICK claimed to love his girlfriend, you wouldnt be in another country trying to meet another girl. HA!!! WHAT a joke. The whole thing was a mess, they took out the fun parts, and LEFT only the parts, where SEX, and HEARTBREAK were.
This Camera crew will not get another response from me again, and i hope Aurora and Onsund feels the same way, us THREE ALONE. AND I will say ALONE...... Had a Hell of time, lots of fun, and there is nothing to say about that VIDEO that brought out the fun side in us ALL. It brought out the sad and heartbroken side. IM SORRY!!! Everyone knows me, I aint sad, i will say, i was upset to watch people i spent time with leave, goodbyes, are not my GAME, never were never will be.
CAMERA CREW you FUGGED up the whole Video, should have focus more on things we were trying to tell you about the game, instead, you made it out to be some reality tv show, about PATRICKS LIFE. HA!!!! PATRICK How do you feel, knowing you were the star of the show. BLEH. **** GETs Bitter taste in her mouth**** YEAH we will drop that subject.

Until next time, I will say this. ONE DAY a better show will come out, to bring the better things about SL OUT> I was only trying to give them the possitives of the game. GUESS they were looking for SAD and LONELY.

Excuse my attitude, but im heated with the whole thing. They just took everything we said about SL and trashed, it. And only kept the SHITTY parts. WHAT A FUGGIN JOKE!!!

Never doing this again, not as long as i live. IT was a waste of two days, on my part. Thanks CAMERA crew, the one possitive thing you did, was bring me closer to my friends Aurora and Onsund, YOU BOTH ROCK. Thanks guys, fugg the video. LETS just say we had fun. Cuz we did. Without that camera crew, and the OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SOoOOOO lonely PATRICK ROFLMMFAO.

I think thats teh biggest crock of shit about SL, that isn't actually focused on most of SL I have ever seen in my ENTIRE life.

Gosh it sounds more like Second Death on Dutch television.

Maybe it is a good idea to allways check previous TV shows or articles from the same journalist before agreeing to be part in such a feature. Sorry, if that sounds like wise-guying, but there is a certain kinds of publications or TV show formats in Germany - and I bet in other countries, too. With these "formats" you can be absolutely sure of what angle such a feature will have at the end - no matter how much sweet talk the team is spending at the set.

I don't want to judge this kind of "journalist". They are just giving their viewers what they want - usually by making sure that all their prejudices affirmed.

I feel very sorry for all those who are involved in such journalistic master pieces.

last saterday it was broadcast again....
this "docu" causes to play SL and see what this game is about.
The broadcastnetwork (VPRO) isn't the best in the Netherlands, it is one of the smallest in our country. It have an strange opinion of teh world imo and is not my favorite channel.

Also wanna say is that docu-makers/ journalist are not the honest people, only when it fits them best. not that they are lie-ing but the docu must sell and there must be people watching. And what sells the best on television????
