It means that at least one Linden doesn't know how to be a professional.

I would guess that it also means they treat the whole thing as a joke.

But then again, why should they take it seriously when I expect very few of them (except Torley) are actually in-world amongst other people for any great period of time actually trying to make something out of this game.

I would love to know the last time Philip actually logged in (either as himself or an alt) to actually experience SL for himself that wasn't part of some event, but to just play for fun?

I saw him in Ambleside last week. He didn't respond though when I asked him for a bear.

There was another thread about it earlier, unfortunately I can't find it now. It's just a little joke, probably from one employee to another during the day. You guys never made jokes at work to break up monotony or stress? Maybe it was a comment on a silly situation they came across that gave the whole office a little giggle.

The Police Botter is not the place for such "silliness". It is an important part of keeping law and order in SL - or at least it should be.

I guess it just goes to show they don't take abuse seriously, even when things are clearly defined in the ToS as being abuse it just gets left alone.

Guess it's all down to who you know and who's butt you are kissing as to whether things get done.

Exactly!

Lindens are allowed to have fun too, its hardly the end of the world that someone put that on the police blotter is it? I am frustrated as the rest of you with the goddamn stupid decsions LL keep making, but hey.. everyone needs a lil bit of light relief!

I remember when I first saw the poilce blotter, there was an entry of harassment at a wedding, and in the description it said something like: A not so friendly wedding present. I got a laugh out of it. It's nice to see something out of the ordinary and funny from all the negativity of the Police Blotter.

I wonder what would happen if you called a hedgehog a moron?

Well said! Sheesh, lighten up, people.... one little interoffice joke doesn't automatically mean they think the whole AR system is a joke as well.

Spinning off from nimrod's post: What if the blotter was about someone who was making inappropriate remarks to a furry in hedgehog theme?

It could also be someone who was making seriously degrading remarks at someone else all because of a RL hedgehog pet.

More generally what if it is a real offence but it's only the blotter presentation that is funny?

Furthermore, maybe we could use a bit more of the funny.

You'd have to bend down a long way to kiss mine and I promise you it wouldn't help you in any way.

Of course we take violations seriously. We also find a sense of humour gets us through the day. :)

And also got that Linden suspended.

That isn't right.

The problem is not so much that the joke post appeared as much as it is that other, serious, warnings are jokes.

I went to the police blotter because people were disgusted by someone getting warned for calling another person a moron. (I still don't know where the original thread was; can anyone point me to it?)

I was thinking there might be an explanation, and sure enough, there was that hedgehog thing. So I said, ok, the site has been hacked or someone thinks this is funny, so don't worry about the moron thing.

A Linden comes in and tells us that the hedgehog was a joke, but the moron wasn't.

It is not the Linden who posted a joke he didn't even think would actually be printed in the police blotter who should be suspended.

It is the higher-ups at LL who should take responsibility for creating and perptuating the quagmire that is the forums. Having said that, I still can't even get a good read on the "moron" thing without knowing where the original thread was.

Yes, they do have a history of putting things on the police blotter in amusing ways, and I've always been amused by it.

But - you can't joke about something that was a travesty of justice in the first place, which this "moron" thing may well have been. (Unless it contained just a whole heck of a lot more than moron in it.) Those who have followed the forums know that far, FAR worse personal attacks have been allowed on these forums, and that there is no justice (or reason) in it.

What's more, right now we are living through the game called Griefers' Paradise, more than ever before, so the timing is really, really bad.

It was this Linden's unfortunate luck that he posted his hedgehog joke (which he didn't think would actually be printed on the blotter) which turned out to be published right above the posted warning that already had people disgusted.

The moron warning, combined with hundreds of other irrational warnings, as well as irrational lack of warnings, is the problem. To suspend this Linden in response is - well, just totally missing the point.

Yet more proof that LL doesn't care about AR's. They don't even bother to inform people what action was taken, so how do we know if they are bothering to do anything?

The people who are complaining about this desperately need to grow a sense of humor.

Long ago we used to have a different kind of police blotter. It was a narrative recap of the disciplinary issues LL had dealt with in the past month. It was hilarious! Everyone looked forward to reading the next one and it was always tongue in cheek.

Can you imagine a worse job than having to deal with abuse reports? I think I'd shoot myself after one shift. Now they can't even interject a bit of levity without a bunch of self-absorbed empathy-challenged busybodies freaking out about it? Sad.

Agreed. I think the people who are outraged about this need to spend a bit more time minding their own business. On the scale of things worth getting upset about, this is way at the bottom.

Is Coco's comment true, a Linden got suspended for doing this? That'd be a shame... have we really gotten to the point where we can't use humor to lighten up a tense situation or a serious subject? :(

I miss the old Police Blotter. It was indeed hilarious but back in the day, SL didn't have as many griefers and alts loose on the grid. I recall a lengthy recap of the end of one legendary SL griefer that we oldbies still discuss. The blotter wasn't a daily posting but as Chip said, we all looked forward to reading the next one.
