Is the increased ban limit in today's patch?

I'm referring to the change from 50 lines in the land ban list to 300.

I've heard several people say it's in preview but I see nothing about it in the update notes. Not a peep.

Of all the changes they're making to UI resolution, to snapshots and gestures (most all of it eye candy), the one thing I felt club and estate owners needed more than anything was a 300-line ban limit. Are we going to get more eye candy and no functional improvements that will help us cope with the increased griefing since 6/6?

Please tell me it isn't so. Those of us who have felt the brunt of the griefing have been trying to hold onto some hope that LL would give us useful tools soon. But these notes say NOTHING about the ban list, NOTHING about muting griefers, NOTHING about turning off push scripts on land --- and all kinds of notes on UI resolution, color pickers and snapshots.

Please, someone tell me they just forgot to add that part to the notes? If it's not in today's patch, WHEN?

With hope it is.

I however only have 4 people (really 3, one is the alt of another) on my blacklist.

It does not appear so, unless I am missing it:

That's where I got the notion it wouldn't be in today.

I'm working hard to control my blood pressure here. My group has been banning 1-2 people a day lately (down from a high of 5-8 per day right after 6/6). We're stressed, we're on edge, we're basically powerless to stop the idjit griefers from wreaking havoc and driving customers away.

So they give us color pickers and higher resolution??

I'd like to think this was all a matter of lack of testing on the anti-push tools and increased ban list, but exactly how much work does it take to stretch a list of 50 people? That's not a major programming issue at all -- which tells me that none of this is a priority for the Lindens WHATSOEVER.

Wow. First you pull the rug out from under your paying customers by removing the registration requirements completely, THEN you give us one relatively worthless feature that allows us to ban anyone who hasn't verified payment info. NEWSFLASH: Many if not most of the griefers have given you payment info! Unverifieds are NOT the problem! Do you wonder, Lindens, why we feel so angry and powerless right now? Or do you even care?

Yes, I saw that too. Let's hope you are right, because that piece is missing from the more recent full release notes.

6/6 refers to June 6th, 2006. This is the day that LL allowed open free regisrations, thus opening the griefer EZ Pass lane to SL...

I hope it was just omitted in the patch notes. If that's it, then please disregard my increasing blood pressure and frothing at the mouth :) That one change is extremely important to some of us.

What Artemis said. And of course it's also no coincidence that the floodgates opened on 6/6/6 :)

But is that copied form the earlier provisional release notes or from something you received today? Yesterday's detailed release notes didn't have anything about the limit anymore.

I'm not involved with any clubs so have 3 people on my ban list. But I can see how this is a major concern for people involved with public SL locations.

It may be. But some sims have been keeping a backup ban list on notecards so we can make notes next to a bannees' name ('griefer', 'refused request to remove weapons', 'underage', etc.). Our group is planning to put back a bunch of the ones who scrolled off the top if the list is increased.

On a related note, it'd be nice someday if we could keep a small note next to each name on the ban list so we can tell the underaged kids from the annoying jerks.

* Landowners can no longer ban themselves from their own land based on payment information

Ummm... this proves that thinking things through is not a high point of the programing process. This isn't a 'bug,' its an amusing 'feature' for having banned verifieds from your land! I still think the whole verified/unverifed is stupid.

Just give me the no push on both my land and avatar to go along with autoreturn, mute and an even bigger ban list! I'm beginning to think the ban list should be around 1000 now, to match the number of accounts listed on the front page. No, not the active accounts on at any given time, the whole kaboodle.. the ones that are used, abused and thrown away.

I have a backup banlist on a notecard myself. it contains almost 250 names. -.- The current version of my security system can only hold 80 names, while the estate ban list can do 50, and same for parcel. I dont use the parcel ban since the sim is split up into 13 of them for reasons. Hopefully this 250 boost to the ban list also effects estate bans.

If it effects estate ban too then il just cram all the names into that (except the many inactive ones). That would probably be around 175 names then. XD

Cindy you are not alone here.. I decided to close my Sim to a group entry only.. I had a griefer tell me after I asked him why .. he said "Thats what you get for having a public Sim bub.. hahahahhahaa". I have been in SL nearly 3 years and have owned a private for Sim 2 years.. this is the worse I have seen.. its been a constant battle of stupid antics daily.. the ban list should be 500 not 50.

Yiffy, has anyone taken the time to look up the names on your ban list and notecard backup? I did this the other day and found 2 names that no longer have accounts. I removed them from the parcel ban list but kept them on the notecard with an "X". :)

That's 2 out of about 80 names. So once in a blue moon, some of these twerps really are dealt with. (Both were C4 bomber-griefers dressed up in cute little Star Wars Troopers armor -- smells like teen spirit?).

Thats what i was refering to when i mentioned inactive accounts. :) I would say 1/3 of the list are SL_Banned, but that don't meen they won't be back. Of course i won't add them, to save room, but i believe I'm gona have to start using the parcel list aswel as estate. All 13 of them... >.> Of course when the SL_Banned griefers come back, i will be watching them.

Cindy,

I checked, and on parcels, the limit is now 300 instead of 50.

But the Estate limit is still 63 :(

All I know is that the day they updated to up the arbitrary banlimit up to something like 200, any useful exploration of the grid became absolutely impossible. I used to walk around the grid and explore to see what people are building or fly if need be, even then I had problems with people who're so paranoid or whatever that they felt the need to ban everyone from their parcel except a certain group. It kept advancing until the point that you couldn't go into any main grid residential sim without seeing a bunch of these and having to work around them. But atleast when you saw them you could just fly over them. Then LL patched to have the huge banlimit height and you had to go way up in the sky just to get past them. Now I think it's hardly possible for me to fly around the grid at any level below 200m.

But it's alright. Creativity in SL is gone, and the maingrid is saturated with so many cookie cutter prefab houses that there's nothing new to see in the main grid anymore anyways.

Wait a minute. You're conflating some different issues here.

1) We've always had the ability to limit access to our individual parcels. Those aren't "bans", that's limited access. Only those you designate as permitted can actually enter your property. Nobody else.

2) The access restriction HEIGHT is completely different than the topic of this thread, which is the "ban LIST length". When they added the 200m restriction height, it prompted me to actually untoggle my own parcel's access restriction in protest. I have a private security device in my home (which is my skybox) that is sufficiently high over normal flight patterns that it isn't an obstacle.

3) The Ban List was limited to 50 people. Any more than that and you had to take someone off to add someone new. As of today's patch it is now 300 avatars instead of 50. THAT is the topic of this thread, not the meter height of access restrictions.

Please don't derail another thread into an argument over red lines. It's been done ad nauseum.
