It should work. There is no harm in trying.

He should be able to sign up without any card.

And he -really- should never give out his debit card info. While the credit card companies are restrained by law on how much you are responsible for if someone frauds your card, the banks can and often will just let you deal with the mess.

Yes, you can.. assuming your friend's debit card has a "credit card" logo thing on it. Like with Visa or Mastercard on it or whatever (or maybe all debit cards have this! - admittedly i'm not an expert on that part).

Anyway, i used a Debit Card... marked with Visa.. and it worked just fine..

Do know that when using a debit card, make sure it supports credit transactions.
For instance, if you swipe it at a grocery store, when it asks you Credit or Debit, if you have the option with yours to select Credit, you can.
I say this, because with a lot of cards, you will get charged a processing fee if you select Debit, or if your card is debit only. When a debit card can be used as a credit card, then that nullifies the fee to charge it as Credit.

Nah. I've done a lot of credit and debit card transactions with LL in the past 3 years, there's never been a problem.

Actually, you do not need to use any such information for a basic account. Your mate can come on and cruise around SL to see if she/he likes it before stepping up to the next level. Upgrading to a Premium has it's reasons, but if your mate doesn't ahve a reason, then just come in and take a look around.

Cheers!

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.
