I know I can't use any *corporate* logos (like a NIKE logo) when making stuff in SL, but am I breaking any SL rules if I make and sell, for example, t-shirts with a "Metallica" logotype on it? Will the stuff get removed, will I get banned etc.?

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, or should be asked in another forum. if someone decides to report you to the copyright owner and then they report you to LL it will be removed.. there are busy bodies that will report you.

Make it a project to choose your favorite band. Find out who to write to and do so asking permission. Tell them what you plan to do and offer them a percentage on each shirt. You might get a form letter saying that they dont give anyone permission for that. Or they might think it is humorous or insignificant and actually give you permission. Whatever happens it may increase the possibility of getting Metallica to do a live show in SL. Sometimes just following a process can inspire creative thoughts. Perhaps by the time you are done, you will have realized an even more worthy goal.  |

I'm not exactly sure how the legal status of the word Metallica when used to identify a certain band is different from the legal status of the word Nike when used to identify a certain Greek goddess. |

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, or should be asked in another forum. If it's the official logotype used on the albums, yes -- I think you can use the name if you don't use the actual trademarked logo.
