Duplicate things in inventory

Is there a way to easily find duplicate items in one's inventory? I just know there are billion duplicates of various dances/textures/miscellany in my inventory and it's driving that obsessive/compulsive part of me just absolutely batty that there seems to be no way to weed them out without a lot of tedious manual work.

Anyone with a brilliant solution/script/wisdom for this problem? Other than just blindly deleting huge swaths of my inventory, I mean. X)

Hey, wow, that's awesome. I'm taking this stony silence to mean that no one knows of a solution...or else my humble little question is simply drowned out in the face of more sensationalist SL matters (yardsales, freebie-selling, omgresmods, etc.). Rah rah General.

Still, if anyone knows, fill me in anytime...'cause it sure seems the asset server is really struggling these days and I'd like to do what I can to clear out the excess crap in my inventory without going insane in the process.

If the stuff that's duplicate is in the same (sub-)folder, you could sort by name instead of date (the menu is at the top of the inventory window), makes it easier to spot duplicate. If it's in different folders, no idea, sorry.

Aside from searching for names you suspect are duplicated, no way that I know of.

I can offer suggestions I use to help pare down my inventory through the search;

1) Get in the habit of pulling things from inventoy by searching for the name instead of clicking open folders (unless you have to because you cna't remember the name). This will let you see how many items are listed under that name, or part ofname.

2) Seach for "common" words. I find searches for "free", "freebie", "box", "boxed", and "temp" pull out quite a few that are jsut wasting space.

3) Search for, and delte/rename the infamous "Object" items. If it doesn't have a name, chances are it's trash.

4) A well planned folder-tree helps loads. Folders and sub-folders which make sense to you. (and printed out for reference in my case of poor memeory *grins).

5) With #4, keep your OBJECTS folder clear. Since it is (usually) the folder everything dumps to, this is the transfer point for what we want and what is junk.

I feel your frustration. Since I build I have thousands of textures. I KNOW some of them are the same thing (even under different names *sigh*) and I -try- to pare those when I se them, but there really is no good system that I know of to do this other than intense manual inventory organization.

Best of Luck.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

If you know the name of the items you have too many dupes of, type some of all of it into the search bar at the top of your inventory. It'll just list the items that match that string. If you have 30 copies of "Texture01A" all over your inventory, type in Texture01A and you'll only see those.
