We're planning to release Second Life version 1.11 on Wednesday July
12th, 2006 pending final verification of the changes. Second Life will
be unavailable from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM PDT/SLT for the update. New
client software will be required to access 1.11.

We've had the Preview grid up and running early builds of 1.11 for over
a week now, but we encourage you to check it out yourself if you
haven't. Grab a Second Life viewer for the preview from:
http://secondlife.com/community/preview.php. (We also have a preview for
a forthcoming release tentatively numbered 1.12, but please try out 1.11
first.)

1.11 is planned to include:

* Zoomable UI (check out Preferences > Graphics > UI Size)
* Improved snapshot functionality
* Eyedropper tool for picking colors and textures
* Single-gesture pie menu (down, drag, up, instead of two clicks)
* Tear off menus
* Keyboard focus improvements
* Lots of bug fixes (my favorite: stars are back!)
* Added Help > Bumps, Pushes and Hits which shows recent actions
* Find renamed to Search; now defaults to searching all content types

Full release notes to follow just before the release.

Thanks everyone,

Joshua Bell a.k.a. Joshua Linden

Yay Us!!!!

New group tools come in 1.12, which is in preview right now. 1.11 and 1.12 were both in preview concurrently.

I can't find any mention of getting the dammed PVP back. Today I had to temporarily ban and question four people to figure out who among them only got knocked out of the sim by the bombs like I did and who actually dropped them and ran. In the end I'm guessing it was the only person of the four who ignored my IMs. (little chickensh**) If it weren't for my HUD attachment I always wear, I wouldn't have had any names to go on at all.

So I wonder how much good my AR is with no evidence to back it up anyway. *sighs*

EDIT: Ok, I apologize for the near thread derailment.. rant over. :o

When do we get the improved grope tools? The current tools are woefully inadequate.

I can't find any mention of getting the dammed PVP back.

In the quoted feature list above:

"Added Help > Bumps, Pushes and Hits which shows recent actions" would be the new improved PvP report.

This is not listed in the current release notes for 1.11.0(2) so far as I can see.

The feature is there, however.

Just got advised there will be an update to 1.11 in five minutes.

No time to test it , log in is closed. :(

But the bumps, pushes and hits option was in the help menu.

The 1.11 preview should return in a half hour or so.

It sure would be nice if the flash effect and the "picture dropping away" effects could be made optional!
Just trying to stay hip by using fashionable giant red letters in every post.

Its about freakin TIME we get a gesture pie menu.

Even old fashioned me might like it once I get used to it.

And the preview 1.11 grid is back up, and I fired up an alt and tested pushing myself.

It seems to work ok. It doesn't look like it keeps a cumulative record. Only the latest bump, push, and hit appears. The window didn't seem to update, I had to close it and reopen it to see the latest result. I walked into myself and it didn't register as a bump - but it wasn't much of a bump; there was no thud sound. When I did it again there was a thud sound, and there was a bump reported in the BPH window.

Now I guess I will shoot myself. Stop cheering, I meant in SL.

That seemed to work, again only the latest hit showed up.

Perhaps more than one person bumping and hitting and pushing would show up.

It didn't show when my SuezanneC Baskerville avatar pushed itself.

Interesting.

Probably an Obvious answer, but what is the difference between:

"* Added Help > Bumps, Pushes and Hits which shows recent actions"

and:

"I can't find any mention of getting the dammed PVP back"

What is the Linden Update Not covering, that PVP would?

Angel.

Sigh, we really need to be able to copy and paste the info from the bph window, don't we?

So you can easily add the name to your cumulative enemies list.

And you ought to be able to right click on an entry in the bph window and get the option to add the person to your land ban list and whatever other punitive options there might be.

In fact, maybe someone could help me with something. Right now when someone causes trouble, I have a step process I go through as an estate manager (island sim, open to the public). First I pull up the region/estate tools and hit that ban button, cut and paste the person's name, then hit the kick button, again pasting the name. I do these steps first to get rid of the person so that the other people being bothered by him will be ok. Then finally I can pull down that AR and paste the name and explain the situation.

The problem is all these steps. And of course the AR doesn't allow me to insert a photograph if I had time to take one before I banned him. It does the automatic screenshot which by this point is useless.

Now IF I'm close enough to be able to actually see the person I can click on his avatar and freeze him to the spot while I just AR and keep him there. But honestly those incidents are rare and if I tried harder to do it, I would be subjecting the people around to having to deal with the abuse longer.

So my questions is, what am I missing? Is there a faster, simpler process I just don't know about?

ok onto the next feature I want.

I want a goddamn hotbar. Why don't we have one? Every graphical game in the last 20 years that is semi rpg dowoteverish has had a hotbar why not SL.

What a hotbar is for the uninitiated:

Its a small shortcut bar that sits on your UI, in it can contain inventory items you use most, gestures you use most et al. A simple keyclick would equip your favorite guitar (in the first slot) your favorite booze (In the 2nd slot) and your xcite for gettin laid by a groupie (in the 3rd slot) without having to deal with a giant bloated inventory.

The UI in SL *SUCKS*

Here here! It's quite an outrage, and it must be stopped!

A console wouldn't hurt either.
