Ok, I have a friend (Relena Resistance) who just got completely shafted by the 1.8.4 updates...
And the linden's responce? basically, that she's S.O.L. ...
Thanks to the 1.8.4 update, she has been laggy and nearly impossle to do anything in SL. And with the 1.8.4 (7) manditory update, she cannot even manage to log in and do anything... it takes her over half an hour to cross most of a 4688m2 plot after the sim is reset and empty...
So, Lindens... Fix your mistakes... you've lost at least one user with that update...
FIX IT! FIX IT!!!!!

FIX IT! FIX IT!!!!! Demanding like that won't get anything done, if you really want to talk to lindens, use the Linden Answers forum. But try to use a better tone of voice. We've all been shafted by recent updates, but some more than others.

We are all collateral damage to LL. I dunno if this place is big enough to afford that kind of thinking. On top of the fact one person can mean 5 accounts. And all their friends.

From: Jonas Pierterson lesson: stop updating so often I agree, the solution to fixing this problem is to not make an update that addresses it.

Is there a thread describing how to find out where the problem is using the debug options and how to report it that we can point people making these posts to? There should be.

How can one understand the problem when no mention of system configuration or connection is made?

From: Teeny Leviathan (Raises hand) How can one understand the problem when no mention of system configuration or connection is made? I don't think is a request for help from users, based on the fact that nothing in the post asks for help from users. This is more of an angry complaint, an irate outburst. One can't really expect people making an irate outburst to provide systems specs and such while they are still upset. Once a person calms down to the point where they can decide to ask for help from other users with a problem, they should post their request to the Technical forum, which if the place to "Discuss technical problems", and supply information of the sort that Teeny mentions. Some of the information people need to supply in order to ease the helping process is available while running SL, in the Help menu, in the About Second Life option. Teeny, et al, is there a way a person can get their computer to produce the information about system specs as easily as possible, so that the needed information can be cut and pasted by someone with little technical skill about computers?

As annoying as caps are, does it really matter? Are you all suggesting that asking LL nicely has been or is likely to be effective in this case?

Draw distance?
03-04-2006 20:22
First thing I would do is tell your friend to open preferences, note what the draw distance is set to and then set the draw distance is all the way down to 64 meters - as a starting point. I sometimes forget to set mine back down from 300+ after spending time in a private sim. Porting to the mainland with a draw set to 400 is a major bummer. Also, it takes a moment for all the requests to simmer down once you have set it lower - alternately you can set it before you connect to SL. Sometimes the distance is set up higher than either/both your connection and video hardware can handle - yes it will clip, but by the time that it gets around to clipping and lowering the distance the damage is done and your connection is blasted full of content streaming down. You can fix allot of that by bumping the frame rate at which it starts to clip up some. Once you get the thing stable you can work up from the 64 meters. If I go into a really packed area (malls or any of the the dreaded "night club"s)I bypass the auto distance and just set it to 64 or 96. Hope that helps!
