Newbies shouldn't be called "Newbies" in SL.

They're blockheads.

I know it's not original, but the meme should be spread around more.

You neanderthal! The proper term is "experientially-differentlty-abled".

Their square?
When I was more of a newbie I purchased a move on accident. Costed me $2000 which i had from, well that doesn't matter, but I wore the box on my head cause I don't have a place to play it. I figured it better be used for somethin. I still never seen the stupid thing.
Nobody told me that the ENTER key is also the Purchase KEY.
I was trying to chat with someone and hit the enter key by accident.
Of course the owner didn't respond to my begging.

I still got the stupid thing. Anyone interested in the "Beauty Shop" movie? heh
I managed to keep the wooden prim box off my head thou. :p
So far.

I don't know... there is a certain huckster nature to SL.
Maybe we should call new residents "marks"? :D :p

Oh, I just call them "newcomers". Because that's what they are. They're "new" and they're "coming" to SL. Ta DA! :D

As one of those new guys, I'm left wondering WTF y'all are talking about. :p

On the other hand, at the freebie store on Help Island, I did see one guy who, at one point, had what looked like a huge stone disk atop his head, like some bastardized version of the oriental "coolie hat". He was looking towards the "free houses" displays, I believe. Any correlation?

LOL, it's an old joke. About 95% of new SL users manage to get a box stuck on their head at some point in the first few hours. This is due to a number of things, like a poor explanation of how to use various objects, poorly labeled container objects, and such. Other common head attachments are houses/cabins, vehicles, and furniture, all accidental of course.

On the one hand, it really speaks to the lack of user-friendliness of SL that this happens so often. On the other hand, pretty much everyone here has had it happen to them, so it's sort of a rite of passage :)

RUR RUR RUR OMG... this TOTALLY cracked me up. What a wonderful way to phrase it! I think that's part of the "Gi" default Linden av... if you search for it in your Library folder. I've worn an intentionally bastardized, green-and-pink version of that for amusement. Haha... Noh, that was just too funny to read.

I've never accidentally worn a box on my head. Altho, I have done lots of other silly things. I am prone to folly! :)

Hehe, I still occasionally go box... cos I have a pair of prim wings with invisible parts stretching way further than the visible parts (they unfurl when you fly) So I attempt to drag the box to the floor, but instead drag it to the wings...

Thats my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.. ;)

I find the box keeps me afloat when I accidentally walk into the water because I walked off the sim due to lag

Actually, no. I suppose my "coolie hat" comment threw people off, but it was a flat stone disk, with the edges beveled, which is what prompted the image of a coolie hat in my head, along with the fact that it covered most of his (well, male av, anyway) face.

I love hearing Devo's Blockhead in SL. It comes around fairly regularly on the stream I listen to most often.

They are officially referred to as New Residents. Alternate terminology may be approved. Simply fill out forms 459/J-11C and R-82-5/M in triplicate and mail them to Robin.

I'm still a blockhead sometimes and I've been in SL since Aug. 2003! *skulks away with a paperbag over the block on her head*
