I was hoping for a vBulletin upgrade. Rats. While that would've been nice, I suspect upgrading vBulletin here isn't a trivial undertaking. As closely tied in with the rest of the website as it is I imagine that there is quite a lot of custom work done to it, which would have to be redone on the upgrade. _____________________

That integration makes the task of upgrading this ancient software all that more important. *sigh* _____________________

Actually, it probably wouldn't be that big of a deal. I have 3.5 and all it would take is to install 3.5, import all the posts and accounts from the database and archives (VBulletin has a tool for this) and then you just put your header image back up and edit the links in the menu bar. However, it would take someone focusing exclusively on the upgrade for a couple of days prior to and then another couple days after for troubleshooting. This takes some LL staffer off other projects for the better part of a week or more, which is likely why it hasn't happened.

Ie, don't you get the source code to extend the functionality if you choose to? Because if you can get that and LL have changed some of the code, upgrading is not trivial. If they haven't customised anything more than menus and the header, I hope we'll see the more secure version installed soon too. Wendel |

In case you hadn't noticed, vBulletin is tied in to SL's login system, for example. _____________________

What are the new features of 3.5? Still I get those panic phone calls when things don't work and the answer to "why did you try to upgrade it" is "duh uh my neighbor gave and then the dragon flew in and well when doves cry ya know." _____________________
