Hi All,
My wife has this intermittent problem that occurs when she changes clothes. This has happened a few times now.
For some reason, she puts on clothes, and they take on the texture/image of her surroundings. The worse case happened yesterday.
To explain, instead of seeing the clothes she bought when she puts them on, she is instead covered with the texture/image of the things around her, i.e, the door, the rug, and everything else that surrounded her at the time. It all kinds of wraps around her. Like the advertising text on the box she got the clothes from one time was wrapped all around her. There is nothing she can do except delete the clothes to resolve it at this point.
Yesterday, it happened again, she tried to change clothes because sometimes that works, but this time those got effected/corrupted also.
She contacted Live Help, they asked her to clear her cache, relog, try this and that and nothing helped. After trying these things, her skin was effected also, not just her clothes. She eventually ended up having problems with her shape also.
So she finally had to remove and delete all those things. She went back to the noob look, and did some altering appearance there, and when she felt she could go out in public again she bought a new shape and skin and clothes and that seemed to resolve the problem.
We're a bit irritated at this, since it costs us some bucks to go replace everything that got corrupted when it happens.
Has anyone else had this problem ? If so, what have you done to resolve it ? Is there a way to get reimbursed for something like this ?
Thanks for your help!

Actually, a while back (month or two) I had the same issue... but the "painting" of the textures cleared up when I cleared my cache and relogged. It didn't happen to my stuff however, it was how other people's stuff appeared to me. It eventually stopped doing that, and I haven't had an issue in a while. That's a fairly common problem usually caused by packet loss or other connection problems (I think). It's usually not permanent. SL just flubs when it bakes your textures together and those funky textures can persist in your cache.
There's an easy fix. Just go into appearance and adjust something (the tint of a clothing item or skin or anything else that causes SL to rebake your skin and clothing textures) and resave the item (any change is fine, even changing pigment by 1). If the item stays garbled contact the creator. Most should be willing to send you a replacement.

Hey Mac, there are a couple of ideas to try.
>Go into appearance >Select Body and change a skin tone by 2 numbers. (Write down the original number as this is temporary) >Save it and come out of appearance mod
IF it corrected the problem, go back into appearance and put that number back to what it was originally.
IF it didn't correct it, try changing clothes. See if that corrected the issue. IF that corrected the skin, try giving the bad article of clothing to a friend. Have them try it on and see if it's corrupted.
If it's not corrupted, try clearing your cache. Relogging. Then take the clothing back, try it on and see if that worked.
If none of the above works, contact a Linden directly and ask them to walk you through more steps. They will help!

Thanks for the suggestions, but just to reiterate, relogging, clearing cache, relogging again, etc.. did not clear up the problem.

Try the adjusting appearance trick, Mac. It's the only semi-reliable way of clearing up the problem. If it doesn't work ask the creator for a replacement. I've replaced dozens of skins for people who've had the same problem. It's an annoying bug that's been around since the dawn of the grid.

From: Mac Campbell Thanks for the suggestions, but just to reiterate, relogging, clearing cache, relogging again, etc.. did not clear up the problem. I had this problem for awhile, and it has reappeared a few times too. Try uninstalling SL then clean disk/defrag/check firewall for updates. Reinstall SL after you do all that. I don't know why my firewall was the problem, but it was, and that specific combination I just listed worked for me. Good luck

I read about this issue a while ago - as far as I remember, it occurred with GeForce graphics cards only and one possible solution was to try and install the newest driver. Actually, one of the Lindens posted a message on this and detailed instructions on how to fix it - cannot find the post, sorry!

I've experienced all the conditions described in this thread and there are different situations. It's not always as you describe, Chip, although that's the best remedy to try first. After one upgrade last summer, what the op described happened to quite a few of my skirts and persisted for a long time but they were not permanently corrupted. I never deleted the items, trying them on every now and then. A few major upgrades (months) later found them to be born again.

This has happened to me a bunch of times, usually it's my login screen I get textured with, skin, eyes, and all. In my case fiddling with the appearance controls always corrected it. Although last time I felt so tired of fixing it I just left myself like that for at least a month. It had the benefit of looking distinctive.

There's no error message for it that I know of. I've had the same problem before where sending a new one didn't fix it. Their client was still pulling up the corrupted textures. What I had to do was send them one that was mod enabled so they could do the "change pigment by 1 and resave" trick and that would fix it.

Sounds like a video card problem to me. Im curious what type you have. I upgraded and before I was on the dreaded Intel extreme graphics card. I wasn't able to change clothes or go into appearance with out everything flashing enough to cause a seizure.
