Art or Evil Marketing Scheme?Location: Roadside, Monti "Artist" statement: It's not griefing or a capitalist ploy to gouge residents into buying ridiculously overpriced land: It's a reflexive art piece criticizing the consumer atmosphere of SL, meant to generate a dialogue about the degradation of our mental space for the sake of greed. It's priced high to make the viewer realize that the purchase of a fleeting idea in virtual space mirrors the aggressive and excessive branding we encourage, pay for, and buy into in First Life.

It would be amusing to see that "art" surrounded and blocked out by an infinite (well, finite but really large) number of "Impeach Bush" signs, I think. Personally, I vote "annoying twit", not "artist".

Evil marketing scheme, probably. And if it is art, it's still obnoxious, moralistic, and nannying. I don't need roadside artists trying to convince me to see the light in regards to my opinions of material things.
Especially when they're being ugly about it.

I say Evil marketing Scheme cleverly disguised as Art.
Seems like this fellow is attempting the same thing as the Bush guy, but has the smarts/gall etc. to publish a statement justifying it and eluding all LL sanctions beforehand.

From: Dianne Mechanique cleverly Dianne, I must respectfully disagree with this portion of your statement.

To me art is something that is interesting ... that is just downright annoying, hehe ... no offense to the "creator" ...

The creator of this questionable installation is undobtedly taking the piss. Not exactly Carl Andre's Equivalent VIII by a long stretch. http://www.tate.org.uk/archivejourneys/historyhtml/people_public.htm

I logged on after being away for two weeks to find most of my land had sold... and when I looked around, I had no idea what to make of it all. When I saw the prices I thought you were crazy, it's snow after all. Is it art? I guess, if you intend it to be, it is. To me, art is a communication. Whether it's attractive is irrelevant. If it's an evil marketing scheme, then you need to spread out... annoy as many people as possible, maximise your potential buyers. Anyway, thanks for buying my land!

Assuming it's art, I wish the artist had spent more time on the implementation and visual concept then he did on crafting a nicely worded marketing blurb to explain it.
Reminds me of an art student who didn't do his homework, woke up and slapped a black dot on a white canvas and spun it for all he was worth to convince his teach that it really had deep meaning and sybolism. Teacher knows better, student thinks he's being clever and the art consumer thinks it's so much pretentious garbage.
Of course, this isn't art, it's just an annoying eyesore.

But what if it was blue?
