Some people have asked what's cool to go see around SL.

I've gotten into Toneless Tomba's SL-books and just released a free one called "Great Builds of SL, Vol 1: Architecture". It highlight 23 builds around SL, if you're looking to explore (or just want something for your coffee table LOL).

The associated website and SLURLs are located here if you want to hop around using the Web, and the books can be picked up in Bisque here.

I'll be putting out more editions in future, and at some point want to cover interiors and sculpture. But on this topic of SL architecture: if you know of an amazing build that meets my criteria (not a prefab for sale, and currently visitable by anyone on the public grid) then please IM me and I'll make a note for possible future inclusion (no promises of course). I would love to discover great new things.

Feel free to pass them around, they're free and set to copy/transfer. Here are two pages from the book and a shot of the cover:

What a wonderful idea, and a great way to preserve the memory of some of these awesome sites before they are moved or deleted. Excellent idea Forseti. I look forward to picking up a copy to display at home.

Awesome job, Forseti! :-) I'm going to have to check the ones I haven't seen yet in person, that's for sure!

Forseti really worked his behind off on this and it shows. I'm personally looking forward to future volumes. Nice work :D

Edit: I think I'd like to do a book too, maybe about bridges in SL. Anyone want to contribute?

Great project, Forseti! It's fun SLURLing around from the website. I like the way you've combined those two cool technologies: Toneless Tomba's books and SLURLs.

I read it, and by the candlelight, and it was really like... a nice coffee table book. I read it inworld in the snow of course.

It's like "points of light", with more to come!

I remember Myst, which had "linking tomes". Well it's funny how this, with SLurl, really links together. Mebbe the inworld counterpart will oneday by linkable too.

The cover itself should be a build. Maybe make a house outta this book.

Props to For for editing and to all the builders for contributing such great works o' architecture. And more.

I'm thinking "bridges", figuratively and literally--maybe there'll be some in the next volume!

I find it fascinating that almost all the builds highlighted are monumental in nature.

Do you mean "monumental" as in large, or as in "like a monument" (i.e. non "functional";)? Or something else?

ty for the comments, and thank you to the people who have brought new builds to my attention.

it's an interesting question: "monumental". I too don't know exactly how you are defining it. If you mean "big" in scale, I would say that yes a number of the chosen builds seem rather monumental, but not most, imo. Flipping through it, I'd say that the first 5 builds aren't huge, the next 6 are, eddie's sky castle is in between, then you get into the batch of sim-wide projects which are by their very nature big although the components of those builds aren't always monumental.

By the way, to anyone interested, Seifert told me that he went on a tour yesterday and collected landmarks of all these places, so if anyone wants that folder dropped on them, just send me an IM, although I'll only be on at scattered moments this weekend.
