So what do they care about?

The Lindens don't give a shit about the growing number of users who are reporting the increasing amount of performance issues and frankly I'm pissed off at all the people in these forums who call me an idiot because "they" aren't having problems so I shouldn't either.
Which gave me cause to wonder: what do they manifestly care about, where "care" is measured by affirmative, visible, action? Written statements of the form "we care about X" are specifically excluded.

Distressingly, I could only think of three:
  1. "Moderation" of the SL forums
  2. Point-to-point teleportation
  3. Scrapping the "Developer Incentive" program
This can't be all, can it?

On a related note, has da bossman split the scene? Has anyone seen anything marginally substantive from that guy since then?

Schwanson saw him recently in his beans on toast. See related thread for details.

1) Expanding and increasing the ability of the client
2) Integrating new tech into it (firefox integration, etc.)
3) Keeping our economy stable
4) Bugfixes

ANd generally speaking, CEOs don't post in forums.

Don't forget IP and CC.

And, generally speaking, CEOs don't wear codpieces either.

CEOs do, however, send out mass mailings and "state of the nation" type missives. Since The King has done it before, it is not unreasonable to think it would happen again. A paragraph every month from the Mouth of The King would be a nice touch and easily done - if not even done by the man himself, but some lackey with his account access, which is how it is done in my world.

Do these pass the "affirmative, visible action" test or are they more properly "intentions" or "expressed desiderata"?

Okay, seriously. I don't think it's a question of caring. They're just doing whatever they want to do and they hope that we like it too. The residents that don't like it can just move along. I'm sure they're all quite comfortable at Linden Lab, and it wont be the end of the world if everybody left tomorrow.

I'd still be here complaining though. :)

:D

Number of residents, number on at the same time. The stress tests indicated this as a priority and I thought that the changes in 1.7 (1.6?) were made to accomodate a greater capacity. I recall the losses in performance were attributed to a lack of scalability, that we had been "spoiled" with the performance prior to that upgrade.

The number of residents are always being cheered and touted. It must be important.

They care about fleshing out their vitae with newfangled synthetic world entries.

Growing number of users = Growing number of performance issue complaints

Increased number of complaints does not mean the number of performance issues with the client is growing exponentially. It just means there are now more people complaining about the same thing. Sometimes repeatedly.

While SL has many shortcomings, some of these users have performance issues even when playing digdug.

The map would be more useful if you could count on it having something other than either a big empty blue field, or a big blurry field, or a bunch of gray loading textures. For me the map's performance suggests that making a good map is the least of their concerns.

I would say that showing gray rectangles with white outlines to people seems to be the primary interest of Linden Research.
