That's about how high an unaided av can get, but staying at that altitude is another issue entirely, at least if you're only climbing, without any forward motion.

One day I tried to see how high I could get without any aids, and while I got to a bit over 200m, I started sinking down as soon as I let go of the "gain altitude" key, settling in around 170-something, IIRC. I only tested at 0 horizontal velocity, though, which may affect things.

There's a bug where you can get to any height you want unaided. But I'm keeping it as my secret. :p

What do you mean? An African or European avie?

They fixed it, unless you aren't refering to the "spam the fly key" bug?

Only reason I made myself a flight overrider.

Nope, different bug.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever bug reported it... should do next time I'm on just to be sure.

You mean unaided by flight ability? In which case, ground level.

I've bug reported it already. Been bug reporting the vehicle engine since day one! ;) :p

I know one way without scripts, but it isn't exactly what I'd call "unaided".

lol!

Since people seem to be interested, it involves turning on flight just before you hit the ground when falling then jumping and swinging your view atround lots. If you want a detailed explanation then ask me in person.

Commented before reading to the end of the thread. Why do I keep doing that?

Okay, what's the altitude where you start to fall back down, then, and more importantly, how fast do you start to fall back down? I have a copy of X-flight here which seems to think that it's 52m and that you fall at standard gravity, but I'm sure you fall slower than that.

European, incidentally.

Again going solely on one experience of mine that I mentioned, above (meaning make of it what you will :p ), as soon as you reach 210-ish meters you can't climb any higher, and once you release the "gain altitude" key (default of PgUp) you start sinking, at about 1/3 G or so (didn't time it, so I can't give a more exact value, sorry), and level out around 160-170m

Went and ran some tests for you and found that both max hover heights (holding "fly up" and not holding "fly up";) are affected by how high the land is where you're flying. Afraid I was too lazy to throw together a land height detector widget to figure out what the distances you want are though, soz.

One interesting thing I found is that flying in little circles lets you reach pretty much any height you want. At least, I got to 360m before I got bored.

Cyberflight turns on at 72m absolute, or 36m above ground, whichever is higher. How fast you fall above that seems to vary sim-to-sim and it's not a simple function of the height above the ground or absolute height. Cyberflight uses a feedback loop to dynamically adjust the boost to keep your motion smooth no matter what the conditions are.
