I read on the website that persons referring people to second life get a bonus amount of Lindens.. I believe it was 1000 Lindens for each person who is referred and creates and account and logs in. And more for those who become paying members. I have referred at least two people who are currently members of second life and play the game. (might be three not sure if the third used my name as a referance or just came to the website itself) Yet I have not recieved any type of bonus. A friend of mine (who referred me) got her 1000 lindens for me signing up. It has been plenty of time. At least a month now since at least one of them has been a member.

Id this function not working anymore? Or did they discontinue it? What is the delay or am I missing something as far as referring people go? Two of them fir sure used my name when they signed up. One was my husband the other was my best friend.

Any suggestions or comments?

thanks for reading this Hope I put it in the right place in the forums. I don't think it would be considered a techn issue =)

The husband's account may be an issue. Definitely so if you are using the same cc. You cannot recaive a referral bonus when creating an alt and LL would be hard pressed to distinguish between a separate person and an alt if you use the same card. I think it's just using the same card that is an issue but I'm not sure.

Referal bonuses are still being advertised indicating that they have not been discontinued.

we did not use any credit cards for the accounts. Neither of us are premium we actually used our personal cell phones to create the accounts. No credit cards at all. And we have seperate cell phones. I am serisouly thinking about becoming premium just still out on debate on a few things. So the CC isnt the issue at all lol.

I've seen enough threads along this line to have the impression that the bonuses are neither automatic or swift. The timing may be a factor (holidays = fewer workdays for LL). Have you called or written customer support?

OK. I have a friend who convinced his significant other to join SL. I had gotten 1k when my friend joined, since I referred him.

But - he never got the 1k for his friend, because they live in the same household - despite the fact they used different credit cards.

They got their accounts over the phone, if that makes any difference.

I messaged Altruima about it, at another friend's suggestion, and she didn't know, and just gave the phone number for ... I forget who, billing, I think.

It looks to me like people in the same household can't refer each other, or something like that, in which case that is ALL WRONG. Each person in a household is a separate individual, and the first person may have done as much convincing of the second (or more) than, say, I had done to get my friend to join.

So why should he be penalized just because his friend shares the same house?

Ditto, why should a wife not get the bonus for referring her husband? God knows, husbands can be hard-headed about these things. A husband = a separate individual = a separate account for SL = the first person should get the referral bonus, for having done a legitimate referral.

My friend and his housemate, by the way, did convince them they were separate people. But that seemed to not matter.

coco

P.S. It wasn't a matter of timing in my friend's case, and he had talked to customer support, etc. They just told him NO.

P.S.P.S. The phone part which rung a bell earlier - now that I think about it, my friend also used no credit card at all. I couldn't figure out how (I thought you had to use one), but he said they had used their separate cell phones, which he told me were not on the same account, because my other friend (his significant other), would "kill him" if he saw some of the phone bills, lol.

So I guess what he meant (and you are meaning) is that they accept cell phones the same as they accept credit cards.

I've been thinking about that cell phone instead of cc number, too. When did that happen? Do you have an option to use either? Kerra claims to have used separate cell phones; what procedure was used to determine that they shared the same household?

well that bites about not getting bonuses for people in the same household. the only way I would think they would know we were in the same household is when you register they ask your address or from our IP addresses. Still not cool. We have seperate computers and get in together alot and if they are going by IP address then that would explain why I never got it for the friend of mine as well. She was over here when I was telling her about it and she signed up here and installed it at her house when she went home. Grrrr

I am not sure how LL tracks duplicates in the same household, but IP seems like a logical way. Without such security measures, the system would be gamed way too easily. It sucks for those who are legitimately signing up multiple household members, but would be gamed more frequently than legitimatley used I suspect.

I am real curious about this cell phone age verification, how does that work?

I am pretty sure they changed it so that you only get the bonus after the account has been in SL for X months. I know it used to be instant payment upon signing up, but am pretty sure it changed.

I am not sure exactly how they determine your age by it

But when I signed up they ask for the provider and the cell number and they text you a secret code that you enter into the next step in the registration
