Is there any way for me to find items I own that I accidently dropped on other peoples land?

There were a bunch of us on an airship, and I was trying to pass something to someone, and managed to drop it out the window onto someone elses property. Im just wondering if theres any way for me to find it.

So aggrivating that I was so stupid.

Your best hope is to wait and see if it's returned to your inventory if you aren't sure where exactly you dropped it.

If you have a good idea of where you were, you can go to the area and watch your mini-map for something that shows up as aqua, since that indicates ownership, but if it's a very small item it probably won't register.

If you can find the parcel where you dropped it, you could also IM the owner and ask him to return it.

Be sure to turn on invis prims (CTRL+ALT+T) to help you spot prims you might not otherwise be able to see.

I dropped the stupidest, smallest thing. Its no huge loss, I just enjoyed having it. It was a case of Pepsi Lime, and if people touched it, it gave them a can.

I have a feeling I'll be doing this a lot until I get a better hang of SL.

Thanks for the help.

A scripted "Find My Stuff" object can scan for items you own.

Here's a lousy, badly formatted script for finding objects that one owns.

CODE
integer dot = 0 ;

default
{
touch_end(integer total_number)
{ llSensorRemove();
llSensorRepeat("", NULL_KEY, PASSIVE | ACTIVE | SCRIPTED , 15, (PI), .4);
dot = 0 ;
}

state_entry()
{ llSensorRemove();
llSensorRepeat("", NULL_KEY, PASSIVE | ACTIVE | SCRIPTED , 15, PI, 1.4);
dot = 0 ;
llInstantMessage( llGetOwner(), "Search for objects");
}

on_rez( integer start_param )
{ llInstantMessage( llGetOwner(), "Search for objects");
llSensorRepeat("", NULL_KEY, PASSIVE | ACTIVE | SCRIPTED, 96, PI, 1.4);
}

sensor(integer num_detected )
{ integer i;
vector v ;
for ( i = 0; i < num_detected; i++ )
{ if ( llDetectedOwner(i) == llGetOwner() )
{v = llDetectedPos(i) ;
integer vx = (integer) v.x;
integer vy = (integer) v.y;
integer vz = (integer ) v.z;
string vs ;
vs = (string) vx + " " + (string) vy + " " + (string) vz ;
llOwnerSay( llDetectedName(i) + " at " + vs ) ;
}

}
}

no_sensor() {
llOwnerSay("No");
}
}

That sounds incredibly useful. I'll have to see about getting one of those

The above script - or preferably a better one by a better scripter than me - can be placed into an object, then attach the object to yourself. It will scan the surrounding area and report if it finds an object that the wearer owns.

It would be better to find a better object finder than to use the script I provided.

The sensor routine is only able to report up to 16 objects at I time, I believe, so a good object finder that would work ok in a crowded environment full of objects would need to be a bit more involved.

I have a feeling that something called a scan-foo will find one's stuff, among other things, but I am not sure of that.
